SITAR 0.991 "Minor Update or Major?"

Yesterday in my weekly pic post I mentioned working on a Steam Deck version of Date Ariane Remastered, and I was having an issue with seeing what menu item was being pointed to playing with the joystick controls, especially when combined with the help menu highlights.

Found a fix for this by changing the way the game handles hovering over menu choices.  Not only does it change the color, but I also had it change the size and outline of the item being selected before you commit with the A or right trigger.

It helped so much that I did the same thing to the main title menu and preference menu, and also that small quick menu at the bottom of the screen. Playing with a gamepad has never felt better with this change to DAR, so I decided to do the same changes to SITAR, and that is what this is.

Note: I am planning some graphic updates to DAR in the near future as soon as I am not busy getting SITAR ready for release, and this hover change will be a part of that update.

One of the affects of this is that as I change the size of the lettering in menus, it causes the whole menu to jump around as you hover, especially with the quick menu at the bottom of the screen.

To me, it feels more interactive this way. This simple change makes the menus come alive. But at the same time, some people are likely going to find the jumping around of the menus to be annoying.  It could be a recent play through of Persona 5 Royal that has me liking the menu change, and it really is annoying. I can't tell.

That's why I want to test this early, and see what you guys think.

I am also implementing this in the Demos available on itch.io.  Attached is a patch to the full game.  This patch is identical to the 0.99 patch I released earlier this week but with the hover changes added. (It also fixes a reported missing file issue that broke the Gallery for some people).

This new versions of the SITAR beta available at https://arianeb.itch.io/somethings-in-the-air-redux/patreon-access or you can use the attached 86MB patch to update your 0.9 game to 0.991.
