DA Remastered 0.50 "Beta"

Version 0.50 of Date Ariane Remastered Beta is now released.  We are close to the official release which I am looking at for the beginning of May.  Change Notes can be found at https://arianeb.itch.io/date-ariane-remastered/devlog/362908/version-050-beta

Version 0.50 represents a complete draft of the final game, with built in Paths (walkthroughs) and bonus content!

New Paths

How to access the Paths: From the main menu go to "Help", then "Paths" (should be default) and enable the path you want to follow.  All 26 of the paths from the website are there, plus 4 more for easier access to sometimes hard to get achievements.  The purpose of this system is to make it so you don't have to open up the internet every time you play to see what to do next.  If it highlights two choices, it means you are in a loop.  Pick one (usually the top is best), then the next.

Enabling more than one path at a time will show you both at the same time, which kind of defeats the purpose.  It is really easy to have two paths open at the same time, if you are seeing suggestions that don't look right, or multiple suggestions, check help to see if you might have enabled more than one.  It's an annoying flaw in the system, but it was the easiest way to implement the paths without potentially breaking the whole game.

Once a path is completed, it will disable itself, and tell you in game.  Paths are available on all versions of the game.

Bonus Content

The bonus content is enabled by clicking "Achievements" and then "next page" over again until you reach the last page.  You don't have to do all 79 of the achievements to unlock the bonus, but you need somewhere between 60 to 70 of them to unlock.  Multidate achievements like "five dinners" count as 6 achievements for the purpose of bonus unlocking.  If you don't have enough the last page will show you how many you have to get.

Once it says you qualify, start a new game.  In bonus games, you don't get hints or paths, and the rules are harder. You can get hints and paths back by turning bonus off in Properties, but the paths will not work properly as they are designed for non bonus games.

Android

I spent a day and managed to make a dedicated android version of the game, with bigger lettering and easier to select touch screen menus. The pictures are lower resolution which is why it is a 170mb download instead of a 600mb download.

Menu items appear in the middle of the screen instead of the corner. The "hints" panel is in the upper right instead of the lower left where it constantly got covered by the player avatar.  I may move it back later, when I find a way to minimize interference.

Also the "map" menu where you select what to do after dinner, has been split in two to avoid filling the entire screen with choices. There are inside the house choices and outside the house choices, and the last choice allows you to switch back and forth between the two.

The patch

Below is a 145mb patch (the largest yet) if you still have 0.40 on your computer.  On PC or Linux, extract the file to the directory where the datearianeremastered.exe is located, say yes to replace files.

On Mac you control-click (right-click) the Date Ariane Remastered app, Show  Package Contents, go to Contents/Resources/autorun/ and drag the patch game folder, and if a window pops up, choose “Combine”.

The new Android has been updated on itch.io, but cannot be patched.

"Beta"

The game is pretty close to what it will be when it is finally released in about a month.  If you find any bugs or things that look odd, tell me. You can message me on Patreon or on Discord, or leave a comment below.

Comments

Hmm, I need to find when that is possible. The crash is obvious: there are no images to support that. Found the bug, and found that the reason the game was allowing telescope when wet, was also why the game was not allowing a walk to the park. This is why it's called "Beta"

Ariane Barnes

The bonus mode certainly is challenging. I'll have to play with it some more to find out everything you can do in it. The only issue I noticed is that the game crashes when you look at the telescope and Ariane is wet from the water; but you can ignore the error and move on.
