Strip Crazy Eights! (Updated to Release Version)
Added 2021-07-25 18:20:52 +0000 UTC
After finishing up the latest graphic updates for Hopepunk City, I looked at the latest sales figures and saw they were down. Most likely a July slump common among game developers, which is why Steam and others have big sales in July. I decided I need to have a sale, too.
But I decided what I REALLY need is a new game to sell, and FAST! The problem is that Hopepunk City has a minimum of two more months of development. My average for creating new games is about two years.
As fate would have it, the next scene I needed to work on in HC, was a "game night" scene that takes place after you are made a permanent resident of the household (the goal of the current alpha). My idea for a while was to play "Crazy Eights" with an option to possibly do "Strip Crazy Eights". The actual card game would be played in the game.
Coding games like this in Renpy is a pain, because while the tools are there, they are not designed with non-visual novels in mind. You have dig into the Renpy docs, and write some python code.
But I did it, and motivated to finish, I did it in a day (Friday). The "game within a game" is fun, and addicting, and has some crazy unique rules that can cause interesting plot twists. So fun in fact, I decided it needs to be it's own game!
So Saturday, I took the "Strip Crazy Eights" scene and turned it into it's own stand alone game. Every game I made has taken two years. This one I made in two days.
But I need to find out if the game is as fun as I find it, so I'm posting it here for all levels of Patrons. Download it, play it, and tell me what you think.
Update! Here are the latest versions. Now including Android. I will be releasing the game free to everyone for one week starting Aug 1, then putting it on sale.
Changes:
* Added an option to play where if everybody has to draw, everybody loses clothes -- this is the only way to get all 4 naked at the same time, but still rare.
* A new background set (for a total of 3) available in Preferences on PC or Mac only.
* Android version now available. Same game except to keep it small it only includes the dining room background.
* Added New Title, Credits, About, Windows, Mac, and Android icons.
Edit: I'm removing the attachments, since they are available on a new post.

Sounds great.

2021-08-08 15:07:22 +0000 UTCThanks. Yeah that is something I am considering for a 2.0 version. More backgrounds, different opponents, different decks, different rule sets. I could come back to this project and turn it into a full fledged game. I could also do Strip Hearts, Strip Spades, Strip Pinochle, Strip Tarot. I know Strip Poker is a classic idea which I have actually done in the past, so I know this genre really well.

2021-08-06 13:40:05 +0000 UTCI enjoyed the game. It would be cool to make it where the game continues until 3 people are naked and the one who still has clothes is the winner.

2021-08-06 13:25:01 +0000 UTCIt's in Preferences. The changeable background comes courtesy of everything being in high resolution PNG files, which unfortunately is a memory hog. This tiny download is 187MB where the HC Alpha is 199MB. The HC version will only have one background and in JPG files. In other words, changeable background is a stand alone exclusive. I might add a couple more, like the building lobby, or an overcast outdoor background to match the foreground.

2021-07-26 00:37:47 +0000 UTCI've enjoyed playing this game. That's amazing that you made it so quickly! It's nice that when multiple NPCs lose at the same time, they are interacting in the final image. I wish that when the player character loses at the same time, s/he would be interacting as well instead of being layered on top of that image. Although if you're planning to add more playable characters to choose from, then leaving like it is would be very understandable. Also, I liked Rachel's glasses. And the female player character is very cute & sexy!

2021-07-25 23:52:43 +0000 UTCThis is a nice little game. But is there a way to move back to the dining room after you've gone to the greenhouse? I didn't see an option for that.

2021-07-25 21:32:56 +0000 UTCIt is possible, but it's a matter of luck. Originally I wrote a rule where if everybody had to draw in a row, everybody would lose, and that led to very short games with three or four losers common. But I changed it so that whoever dropped the card (or if you are the 4th person in a row to draw -- same thing), then they are the only one who loses. This has reduced the speed of the game, and makes three or four losers uncommon.

2021-07-25 20:15:58 +0000 UTCThis is a lot of fun actually, and I could see it slipping right into the game. I've played through a handful of the outcomes and I can't seem to get all three women/everyone naked. Is it possible?
