Hopepunk City Demo 0.3 (plus hints)
Added 2021-04-12 16:26:49 +0000 UTC
Decided to update the demo program. I don't have an updater file so you will just have to redownload.
Fellow visual novelist Tlaero made some helpful suggestions to "show" more instead of "tell". With the goal of showing more "slice of life" moments of Artema for better immersion, I added 4 short NPC dialogs designed to highlight aspects of life in the city. I may add more as I go.
Thinking of the world I built for the game, I imagine differences between real life and the invented life, then come up with funny or tragic scenarios to demonstrate those differences. I've written 6 so far, four of which will be in this demo. Also changed the order of other dialogs so the "showing" comes before the "telling".
Mac and PC now include new icons. I need to test the Android update before I launch, so it will come soon.
HINTS
At some point I will do a walkthrough, but because some can't get past the end of the month check point, here are some hints:
- To pass on to the second month, you need to get the three roommates to like you at least 9 points each, and 30 points total (Dinky's like points count in the total), have volunteered to cook and clean at least once, and are working in a job that is better than entry level.
- Easiest way to get a good job is to buy a training kit in the market and train for two weeks. You can cut the training in half if you are unemployed, thus doubling the amount of time you can use to train. You can do this in week one, but not taking a job and buying a training kit, means you wont have any money for the market in week 2.
- The opening house tour can get you 3 likes from Rachel, the intro to Ariane can get you 3 likes from Ariane (hint: do not flirt or discuss sexuality in this conversation), and the morning breakfast can get 2 likes from Maya. When you talk politics with Maya in week 2, ask questions. That alone gets you at least 3 more likes.
- If you see "Need to Relax" or "Need to Exercise" in the bottom left, you should schedule that the next time you can or you will lose your job.
- Don't buy the porn video, and probably not the exercise tape either. Relaxing without porn, or playing augmented games can involve your roommates joining you for free likes.
- Cooking/Cleaning more than once a month will not score extra like points, unless you are trained in cooking.
Comments
It is. The Rachel taking your photo is an extra dialog you get when you reach a like level with her. Each roommate has a "theme" with these extra dialogs. Rachel involves photography, Maya involves taking you to interesting places (demo = greenhouse), and Ariane is the dark side of Artema (demo = talking to American Nationalists). Ariane's don't sound very fun, but I am working on ones involving Ariane that are.
