I once worked in a small automotive electrical rebuilding shop where I used one of these beasts daily. The fact that I’m still here to tell you about it demonstrates that you were right about the lightbulb limiting the current in the test probe circuit but it still made a nasty little arc every time there was a complete circuit. We kept a pair of insulated rubber gloves right next to the thing and I always used them.

2022-07-29 21:01:33 +0000 UTCWith the probes: Make a block of wood with 2 parallel holes in it big enough to take the wooden part of the probes, to act as a storage holder/protector! Extra points if you make some sort of detent mechanism or something to keep the probes stuck in the block, so that they don't just fall out if the cable moves or gets lightly pulled on. This could even be attached to a piece of wood that the growler gets mounted on, since it seems to be designed to be bolted to something.
