Eric, if you still need a small soldering iron, I really like my TS100. I think SainSmart makes it but a couple other places make copies that are also good. Love the content, I binge listened to the podcast this week, started it Monday and finished yesterday night lol.

I thought my soldering technique was suboptimal. Good to see you getting some practice! You need at least three hands to solder correctly: Iron, solder and two pieces to be connected. The magnet wire would have been varnish dipped to insulate it. The varnish needs to be scraped off before it can be soldered.

This Pleases the Zeos. I'd have definitely gone Stereo.

Cool video. My Dad had a pair of these that were similar, but I don't know where he got them or what they were used for. Good restoration, always interesting. Cheers!

Eric, I really enjoyed this piece. When I was in my very early teens I got to play around, disassemble, and get working a lot of this kind of thing. My mentor-uncle was a radioman on several destroyers in the Pacific during WW II and was a passionate ham operator to the end (I have a ham license but haven't been able to follow through much on that). So my uncle gave me little repair projects and/or items to experiment with. And similarly, my father's department at the college he taught at had so much of this stuff they didn't know what to do with. But it was all before I learned about restoration, let alone all the skills and tools I've since discovered. But you raise a profound academic question - should earwax be retained in a period restoration? Ha ha! I think it is amazing how good these headphone sound when you consider record players, early radio, and player pianos were in the landscape at the time. Great choice.
