Little Deer Little Wolf (updated WIP)

Comments

First, I just want you to know that I am incredibly glad to see that you are still working on this piece! Out of curiosity I did a little timeline digging and the first time that you debuted Christian (and ultimately this story) was in a WIP drawing back on August 26th, 2021! Since then you've post about Christian and this story on October 14th, October 20th, October 24th, and March 7th, 2022. Since it's debut I can see that it has undergone one very significant change, and that is the title! Initially you titled it The Wolf & The Forest, but then you changed it to (and settled upon) Little Deer, Little Wolf. I found that discovery to be particularly interesting! Both titles are great, but each individual title gives off a very distinct feeling. The first one, The Wolf & The Forest makes me think that the story is more about Christian and Sal. Where the second title, Little Deer, Little Wolf, makes me think this story is more about the babies. Or perhaps the children within Christian and Sal who both wish for things to be simpler like when they were younger. Maybe both though, a little bit of column A and a little bit of column B? Also, you did some editing from the initial first draft you uploaded. I compared because I wanted to see if the two stories were two separate parts of the same story or two different ones. Quick observation though, when doing POV sequences you have a tendency to switch between the uses of 1st person and 3rd person POV. At times I found it to be a little confusing because when you shift between action cuts and characters the ownership of who is speaking or seeing gets lost. It ends up becoming very jumbled, requiring several read throughs to understand what is going on. Maybe some better clustering of single character actions with smoother transition between alternating characters might help keep the line of action flowing more coherently? Now! Is this story Canon or Non-Canon? Based solely on " Tell Me Where it Hurts," this story has to be Non-Canon because Sal ends up imprisoned and working with his vile Father and Cats' nemesis Vali. Though, if you wanted to make it Canon I would not hate that! I mean, who is to say that after all is said and done, Sal doesn't move and find happiness with someone else?! From a logical standpoint it doesn't make sense though, because Sal starts this journey by being away in Siberia tracking and hunting the God Killer. That happens almost directly after Sal is revealed to actually not be Cat by Vali and they reconvene at Ericura's house to discuss matters. At least, all this is based off of what information I know. I mean, I'm still waiting for more of Marcus and Bonnibelle!!! That could be canon too if you wanted it to be! It also makes sense, I said it then and I'll say it again now. There is NO WAY that for the decade that Sal pretended to be Cat that he and Marcus never had sex. Not to mention, Sal is the Celtic God of fertility and forests, it makes sense that he would have virile seed that would easily take root. In addition to that I see Cat and Marcus as being flexible, alternating between who's top and bottom. So it leads me to think that at some point Marcus was taking as much as he could give. "....as Marcus comes to a conclusion that Christian had been quiet for decades. Centuries ever." At first when I read this (and then went and looked back on the physical description of the character known as Clyde "Butcher" Johnson) I thought that Clyde and Christian were actually the same person! Especially seeing as Marcus had stated to not having seen Christian for awhile. This quote only further reaffirmed that notion, "I thought maybe.... maybe there'd be more for me here than back at headquarters." When Christian referenced headquarters I thought he was talking in regards to Kill Creek! It wasn't until I continued reading that it was revealed that headquarters was actually a police precinct in Chicago(?) and that Christian left after Sal proposed to Ericura. Though the idea that Chrisitian left Kill Creek because of his unrequited love for Sal just made so much sense to me!!! Having known them all since Kill Creek justified Christian's long and quiet disappearance for a up to few centuries. It explained how he knew Marcus, Cat, Abigail, and Ericura. How he ended up envious of Marcus's, Abigail's, and Cat's polyamorous relationship. Also, it partially explained why Christian didn't really enjoy Ericura's company (they all lived together at Kill Creek). Oh, and while we are on the topic of Ericura, what sat so heavy in Christian's chest regarding Ericura? Why exactly did he not enjoy her company? Was it simple jealousy towards her and what she was able to obtain that Christian could "never" have? I mean, ".... obviousdly all that stopped once he fell for Ericura," speaks volumes about how he might possible feel about the whole situation! Or was there something more to his discontent of Ericura? Bottom line, I thought that it was a really cool idea that when Christian left the gang he got a name change and tried to disappear from everyone. Felt a little anticlimactic learning that they were just simple cop partners, but it also makes so sense that they all had lives after the gang dissolved. That they all went on to make new relationships and friends, find new jobs, built new lives. With all these various thoughts in mind, what exactly is Sal's and Christian's history together? Obviously they knew each other well enough to give one another nicknames; Ten-Pointer/Tenner and Chief. So with the character metamorphose of Christian, I'm very curious to learn more about your universes Lycans. Is how Christian's behaving considered to be "normal" Lycan behavior? By nature alone Lycan's are more animalistic simply because they are already part animal. Though Christian describes himself having "animalistic feelings." Are these particular feeling more animalistic than he is used to, making them foreign to him? Also, what are a male Lycan's mating habits and what role does a male Lycan play during labor and delivery? When Sal is going back into active labor with the second baby, Christian states that a vibrating feeling wakes him from his sleep. Is that like a paternal blood link? Does it only apply to his babies, or does it also apply to his kin (people in which he shares blood with)? "Yeah, and my ratio of boys to girls isn't exactly 50/50 either." Was this quote a reference to Rus being trans? If so, I am not sure how to read that. Is Sal okay with Rus being trans, or is he somehow upset or resentful of the fact that Rus is trans? I can understand that it is a statement of pure fact, but why does it matter? Why bring it up? What if Rus ever found out? How such a statement could hurt him. Why can't we just except the fact that the two of them had a girl and be happy with that? Christian's view on Cat's, Marcus's, and Abigail's relationship only makes me feel more sorry for him. It also makes why he is envious of them and what they have understandable. I bet that Christian wonders all the time why he could not have something similar with Sal and Ericura. Though I do not think that that would have ever worked simply because Christian did not really enjoy Ericura's company. At least not in the same way that way that Marcus and Abigail enjoyed each others. Though having been subject to their relationship, it makes sense that Christian would be left with split thoughts and mixed emotions. Poor Christian, he is like a lost and beaten puppy and I just want to save him. Bring him into my home and love and nurture him to a safe and confident place. There is a part of me that would love to see this all work out, but I can't deny the part of me that loves drama and whats to see this continue to go unrequited and unfulfilled. Did Sal and Ericura officially get divorced? That had to be Ericura's doing though, because Sal is a hopelessly lovestruck and loyal man. It is evident as well that Sal is also an extremely guilt ridden man, full or doubt and insecurity. So it makes sense to me that if Ericura wanted a divorce then Sal would not object and give her whatever it is she wished for. Despite the fact that maybe deep down he wanted to make amends and try to work through and save their relationship. Now, as an extension of this, Sal said that before the ink could even dry on the document he was already thinking of Christian. Of how he was not anywhere safe with the impending storm about to hit, and Christian in his defense said that he couldn't just do nothing. I also second Christian's defense! If Christian just sat in his basement and did nothing to help the town and people, then that would make him an absolute shit Chief of Police! That is no way for a Chief of Police to act, though as someone who loves another I can recognize and understand Sal's concern for Christian and his well being. So, why is Christian so hung up on the fact that Sal is a celestial God? Does Sal being a God somehow make him better than Christian? Is there some type of class hierarchy here that I am unaware of? Or some type of historical divide? Sal being a celestial God should be no more than a mere fact. Just like Christian is a Lycanthrope, just a matter of fact and knowledge. Finally, what EXACTLY was Cat's plan? Did this not happen after Cat's plan dissolved and fell apart? What kind of grand plan was it that Cat created? What was he planning for exactly that factored in Sal getting knocked up?! All of this just keeps getting so much more complex. It is very intriguing though!! Fantastic work as always and I can't wait to see what it is you have up your sleeve!
