Something I consider about the Shinken Hakkyoken and it's place in the Bleach universe is that the world is still (at least I assume) founded on Shinto principles. They don't get emphasized much due to the shows focus on death and the afterlife (far more Buddhism-oriented), but Shinto principles would still guide much of the day-to-day and world building (In Japan, Shinto just IS and if you talk to the Japanese it's ingrained in a way that it's almost invisible to them and inseparable from simply being Japanese). That said, the idea of a god-killing zanpakutou... swap 'god' for 'kami' and I feel it makes a lot more sense. We don't see the interactions with the kami of the Bleach world (they're ingrained in the world of the living after all...not our focus here), so inserting a relic geared towards them seems out of place (whereas it would be very normal in the Shinto day-to-day). Lille Barro, evolving beyond the mortal realm now fits more into that of the kami - divine, spiritual entities, and thus falls under the influence of a weapon geared towards them. His own viewpoint fits the quasi-judeo-christian bent of Ywach and the quincies, so he would see himself elevating towards his god (but what are angels if not kami). We know that other spiritual entities and creatures exist (see Burn the Witch), so perhaps Shinken Hakkyoken is more inline with THAT aspect of the world than the traditional world of the shinigami.

Going to be honest, I love that it was Nanao, not Kyoraku, to finally put down Lille Barro. I know people might prefer her captain to be the one to finish off Lille but I think his survival of Kyoraku's bankai rise the stakes to even greater heights. Should Shinken Hakkyōken be revealed earlier, yes, of course it should of but the latter half of this fight is weirdly one of my favorite endings to a fight.
