We're only one episode deep into the battle for the Royal Palace and it already seems like they've delivered in a big, unexpected way. This was the craziest episode of the cour, and for a Bleach lore nerd like me, I'm very pleased.

You can see his medallion on his cloak light up for a moment before the scene when you see what looks like Blut on his eye. I assume that's what Yhwach threw and he somehow swapped them. That's why he isn't shocked like Haschwalth was.
