Even when they hate MC they don’t, Avina, their closest friend is competing with “hatred” and still losing. I don’t get the angle. Is the point just for everyone to be either really unhappy? Or mildly okay? Where is the satisfaction in reading just pure angst?

2025-05-07 22:19:16 +0000 UTCThat was awesome, and I found it funny (and fitting) that Seven apparently didn't even notice he was brushing his thumb over MC's hand when they were on either side of Frankie. I had figured it was an unconscious thing--falling back into how things were at the feel of MC's touch. But... Seven's fickleness with everything is going to drive me (as a reader) batshit crazy. And it's not just the fickleness with the MC ("I hate them!" "Why do I want to be around them?" "I could never hate them!"). Seven, one second: "Ugh, I'm glad Avina isn't here, they'd make everything worse." Seven, three seconds later: "I didn't want a drink, but the fact that Avina gave it to me makes it perfect." Talk about whiplash! The funny part is that, like Seven, I want the MC to suffer horribly. I want them broken and proverbially bleeding on the floor. And I can't wait till they are actually together so Seven can make the MC feel horribly insecure and unwanted by keeping them at arm's length (the thing I dreaded, I now crave, because Seven is right, and the MC was entirely at fault). That said, I still hate Avina with an undying passion. And I'm not too fond of the rest of SV, either. So every time Seven fawns over them and acts like Avina is his savior, it makes me feel like vomiting!

I want to see Seven get hit in the face with the fact that he is basically stabbing my MC in the heart every time he is near her. Every scoff kills another piece of her heart, every glare makes her sink further into depression and despair, knowing she's alone and that it's all her fault that she lost the one person who actually cared about her. I want her to shatter completely, all the time knowing she deserves it for betraying him, and I want him to have to freaking watch it and know he did it to her. I wonder if seeing her "get what's coming to her for being so terrible of a person" will be enjoyable to him?
