Update: July 15, 2022 - what's up?

last time on Dragonball Z: I said that I had a Jimmy Neutron brain blast idea for a New Vegas video. what was it, exactly? how am I going to finagle it into a workable script? find out this time on Dragonball Z.

what is the meatman talking about?

I mentioned that I wanted to write about the communities around the city of New Vegas, and that I had some giga brain idea on how to contextualize them for examination. it's a bit hard to explain briefly, but here's a summary that hopefully doesn't spoil too much:

New Vegas (the game), like a lot of post-apocalyptic fiction, has societal regression as a strong theme. basically the entire debate that people continue to have regarding "which ending is the best?" is really more of a question about which old world model of society is best suited for the wasteland. the NCR opted for a US-like republic model, Caesar obviously was obviously inspired by Kanye West and chose to "keep it 300 like the Romans", and the Great Khans... well they're called the Great Khans at least.

but what about the New Vegas area? what's actually going on there? why is it kinda shaped like a medieval city? what flavor of squalor are the surrounding communities in?

so I've been diving into some reading on pre-modern cities and relevant tangents like "how foreign military bases fit (or don't fit) into your local community". plenty of interesting ideas and nuggets of information to play with. CGP Grey's analogy of getting lost in the "forest of all knowledge" is starting to ring pretty true, but ideally the central theme will keep the script's course correct.

other news

I'm not sure what else to update you on so I'll rapid fire a few things. Barrel Vision Volume 2 is obviously still not done but it has made more progress. I discovered that my recording of the Dragonball Evolution watchalong has the movie's audio burned in, which makes it quite annoying to work with and potentially a no-go for an edit. recently I've also been streaming Kentucky Route Zero over on Twitch, which is kinda thought provoking but also very strange and obtuse.

and before I forget: thanks for all the support on the last video and in general. I know I probably don't say it enough, but I do mean it.
