This was such a profound moment for me in my creative journey. I met Shani through mutual friends as we both grew up in the same home town. They are a creative power house with an honest heart of gold. And it was because of a shoot I grew a lot more confident in my capabilities and creativity.
I had paid Shani to model for me, and I would highly suggest anyone new starting out to do the same. It's art supporting art in this creative community we need that solidarity.
I remember being very nervous when asking them to pose as I felt guilty about being bosssy. But they assured me that it was okay because they can't see what I can through the lens. That was sort of my eureka moment, as I hadn't thought of it like that.
When I think back to the shoot as well my favourite part was just simply talking to them and sharing our life stories up until this point. It was another eureka moment as I realised that this creative outlet was a way for me to connect with others through art. The idea of expressing myself and working with others to create something more than ourselves, was so healing for me at this point in my life. I had gone through a pretty rough patch and it felt like I was waking up after a really bad storm.
I can't express how grateful I was for this experience, was such a learning experience and healing one at that too. I got a lot of love for Shani, they are one of the kindest humans you'll ever met.
