The fact this movie is 32 years old is soul crushing!! I was 6 and my mom took my siblings and I to go see in theaters after our doctorβs appointment Since then, we get to together and watch it multiple times throughout October since it came out on VHS (yes my mom still has the OG VHS tape, but it is unwatchable now) But 32 years later and it is still a tradition β€οΈ

2025-11-05 04:06:48 +0000 UTCThe last two lines of the script having ALL of the drinking words was fantastic. Can attest that nostalgia wasn't necessary to cement this as a personal classic. I first watched this as a teen in 2018 and fell completely in love, and I can't appreciate the kid actors and the writing of the sibling relationship enough. We love the camp of this movie and that's the main reputation, but there's such a genuine aspect and deep heart to it too. Dani is a perfect little-sister kid character. It's also the "witch movie" we really needed as a culture and is genuinely great as an exploration of witch antagonists. The witches are classic and scary but also stick close to Salem lore and superstition and have interesting powers in a refreshing way that makes them the defining cinematic witches for me in the way Bela Lugosi was for movie vampires. I wish the sequel had half of this film's quality.
