Finally caught up!! Ah, super later comment. What a ride! Fun fact: a popular theory that was later confirmed by Mike is each of the siblings represents one of the five stages of grief: Denial (Steve), Anger (Shirley), Bargaining (Theo), Depression (Luke), and Acceptance (Nell) Such a powerful show. The depiction of mental health through the lens of horror is done masterfully here. 😭❤️

2025-11-20 12:29:14 +0000 UTCI'm so late but have finally caught up with your Hill House reactions! I won't repeat what everyone else has said about the genius etc. of the show. There is just one thing that really bothered me about how everything went, and that is that it's never clarified to the Crains that Nell DID NOT die by suicide. I'm not sure if Flanagan forgot to tie up that loose end or if he thought it would be too bleak to have it explained to the siblings that Olivia killed her daughter, but I just really wish Nell could have had a line about that given all the siblings' feelings in previous episodes about the supposed suicide. Poor Nell. She got the short end of the straw in so many ways. Her father's deal with the Dudleys not to destroy the house sealed her fate, first of all; otherwise she would not have died. She didn't want to die, but her own mother killed her (while laboring under a delusion reinforced by the house). Now her eternity is to be spent with that mother, who's still not really in her right mind, so she doesn't get to be reunited with her husband nor will she be reunited with her siblings (who presumably won't return to the house to die there, not that she would want them to). Basically her one small comfort is that her dad is there now too. But the last look we see on her face as the door closes kills me every time - she's so unhappy. People complaining about this show having a happy ending are forgetting Nell.

2025-09-29 01:16:18 +0000 UTCSuch an outstanding piece of television, truly one of the best. I'm so pleased to have followed this with you Alanda, the emotion you've shown is beautiful.

2025-09-28 22:44:37 +0000 UTCMy God, I am a mess. The show was already hitting me hard. But, Alanda's reaction to it amplified it to 1000 for me. Michael Flannigans work is fascinating. Its equal parts joy and despair. I'm always left with an equally full, and hollow feeling. Its very disconcerting, but also enlightening. Lol

2025-09-27 10:16:42 +0000 UTCI'm sorry but "crazy sexy ghoul" took me all the way out. Yes levity and 90s pop culture references to ease the trauma. THIS IS WHAT I'M HERE FOR (hashtag clap emoji)

2025-09-26 03:06:53 +0000 UTCHonestly just work your way thru Mike Flanagan's filmography. Plenty of scares and tears to keep you busy.

2025-09-24 21:22:39 +0000 UTCWhat I love most about the Mike Flanagan shows is that he makes sure to give every actor their moment to shine. Even the funeral director got a little monologue. No actor gets wasted. He can pull amazing performances out of everyone.

2025-09-23 22:12:21 +0000 UTCExcuse this late comment, I forgot that i had put off watching your reactions to E6 and on so I could binge watch them all at my pace. Here goes: When you initially put up your Patreon poll asking what series to react to, you listed Hill House, it was an immediate vote for me. Having watched all your previous horror film reactions on YouTube, I figured/suspected you would be really invested in this series. So glad/happy that my suspicion proved to be correct. I'm so absolutely JADED when it comes to maintaining interest in a series. Mike Flanagan OBLITERATED my low expectations with his Hill House, Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass series and projects. He's an absolute MASTER, and SAVAGE BEAST of a storyteller. The way he crafted the plot points, writing, casting, production and directing, really had me thoroughly delighted, shocked, gutted, and truly impressed. Repeating myself here, I was SOBBING HOT TEARS of joy/resolution during the last 10 minutes of the episode 10. The very moment I saw Luke lighting his 2 Year sober anniversary cake candles, i started to sob so loudly, i had to check myself, my glasses fogged up from my tears splatters onto my lenses. UUUUGLY crying. I swear... The music and song choice for that montage broke and healed my cold dead heart all at once. It also happened last night when I watched your reaction. WTAF!😭🥹😭 THAT is how much I enjoyed the series. So glad you understand it, and that it merits your tears as well. I agree with you, it's probably the best, or one of the best series I've ever watched. Ever. Unsolicited opinion/advice: Assuming you're now locked into the Flanaverse, if when you watch The Haunting of Bly Manor, you will need to pay CLOSE attention to the time jumps. I've watched watched a handful of reactors get a bit confused with Bly Manor due to how layered/complex the series gets. The Haunting of Hill House is checkers, The Haunting of Bly Manor is chess(if that makes any sense). Midnight Mass is also so GOOD! Next to The Haunting of Hill House, it's my very favorite Flanagan series. Also, so many people either ignore or don't know about "Gerald's Game"(2017) it's yet another Flanagan piece of horror mastery. Doctor Sleep(2019) is just💀🤌 It did The Shining proper sequel justice. You have so much greatness to experience. I can't wait! Your heartfelt reactions to the content we love, your channels are my temporary mental escape from the ugliness and atrocities going on in the real world. THANK YOU👏🙏

2025-09-23 06:03:45 +0000 UTCAlanda, I’ve absolutely love your reactions to this series. Through the scares, the laughter, the heartache, and the tears, thank you for allowing us to come along for the journey. The Haunting of Hill House is definitely Mike Flanagan’s magnum opus. His other works are also amazing. I would love to see you react to The Haunting of Bly Manor sometime in the future. Bly Manor is my personal favorite of Mike Flanagan’s work. In the meantime, I look forward to the fun reactions to Chucky. It’ll be a great palette cleanser after getting emotionally mollywopped by Hill House.

2025-09-22 23:05:59 +0000 UTCMaaaaam if you cried here…wait until you see “Bly Manor.” I never cry during things. I ugly cried there. All of his shows are atomic bangers. For you I’d say “Bly Manor” next even though my runner-up selection is “Midnight Mass.” Miss Kate Siegel really shines there. I also really dug “Fall of the House of Usher.” Also, check out “Doctor Sleep.” I think you’d really like it.

2025-09-22 19:40:53 +0000 UTCI have watched this show 4 times now, and each time I cry and cry and cry just as hard as I did the first time. But your reaction and your response to the writing and how you connected to this made me cry more than I did before. Beautiful soul I am so so happy you loved this show and watched it and felt so much watching it.

2025-09-22 14:16:03 +0000 UTCRight?! All that guilt, secrets, misgivings and, in the end, it's about family and love. They were a beautiful family from start to finish: such rich characters and such a powerful, heart-wrenching story. I loved watching it with you and hearing your thoughts. Hugging you through this comment. Thank you for this journey! P.S.: I once read someone mention how Nellie touched everyone to wake them up, but with Theo, who was overwhelmed by touch, she held her hand out and let her reach for her instead. I found that to be a beautiful detail.

2025-09-22 10:27:46 +0000 UTCThis show was equal parts spooky and sentimental. The messages are beautiful, and the characters are nicely fleshed out, fully developed, and flawed characters. Thank you, as usual, for giving us your very real and vulnerable reaction. We're right there with you! Here's to the completion of a great series! 🥂❤️

2025-09-21 18:07:06 +0000 UTCThis show really surprised me, and still does. The fact that it reimagined the novel and the original film in such a way that is scary and heartfelt, poignant and universally relatable is such a rarity. 2025-09-21 15:31:52 +0000 UTCAmong the long list of lines that will make me cry every time is Mr Dudley telling Hugh, “This house is full of precious, precious things. 2025-09-21 13:38:36 +0000 UTCI have friends (who usually have good opinions) who loved this show until the ending, which they said ruined it all. And I just cannot understand why anyone would feel that way. The entire message of this show and the story it told is defined by its ending and it’s perfect in every single way. “And all who walked there…walked together.” I sobbed the first 2 times watching it, I sobbed with you here. So glad you loved this one the way that you did. I’m excited for you to return to Mike Flanagan some day but for now I am SO excited for you to get into Chucky, it’s goofy and gruesome and just so much fun, Charles continues to up the drama each season and you’re gonna get some great laughs out of it all. ❤️

2025-09-21 11:45:59 +0000 UTCYou made it! Sensational reaction as always. This show has such a beautiful heart and message, and I think that's why we as viewers wanted you to watch it so bad. Your final thoughts and your emotional journey really get what it's all about. So glad you loved the show, it's a really special experience and it's honestly unreal that Mike Flanagan went on to outdo himself with his following projects. The journey is just beginning! I meant to comment this in the last video, but I love the new lamp and its effect on the colour scheme of your videos. It's probably because Hill House is such a blue/green show, but it makes for a really nice contrast when you're a little island of light and warmth on a dark and cold screen. Surviving the horrors through light and love, just like the show says!

2025-09-21 09:36:44 +0000 UTCEP1: “Silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone.” Ep 8: “Silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked together.” Because literally all they have is each other 👁️👄👁️ reframing this house from a hellish murder building into a place with precious memories and souls, I have to leave

2025-09-21 07:04:39 +0000 UTCWhenever you get to the ending of a show, you get worried they won't manage to land it. Hill House is prefect from beginning to end, and I'm so happy to exist at the same time as this show. So happy you went on this terrifying, gorgeous, and heartbreaking ride! Time to watch a ghost in the background video now! 😂

2025-09-21 06:44:36 +0000 UTCI don't have anything witty or insightful to say. This episode has reduced me to tears yet again, and I only sobbed harder when you started crying too. The Crains are fucked up and traumatized and wonderful, and at the end of this show I love them like family.

2025-09-21 02:50:23 +0000 UTCSuch an incredible show. A literal 10 out of 10, I’ll never be the same. I’m so glad you loved ittt!!! Your reaction was everything I needed, you get it 😭 The way this show plays with what a “ghost” is. Like yes there are literal ghosts but also all season long Shirley was haunted by James Lafferty, her guilt. And Hugh was haunted by his loss, manifesting Olivia to cope. “A ghost is a secret, a ghost is a wish” And rewatching the show and seeing that fuckass red room window in the background of all the different rooms it became in order to trick them… Mike Flanagan WHAT is your PROBLEM also I love you 😭😭😭

2025-09-21 02:21:38 +0000 UTCFriend, I'm right there with you. This is one of the most amazing pieces of television I've ever seen and the character development is absolutely amazing. 2025-09-21 00:11:44 +0000 UTCIt never fails, I always cry at the end of this show. But it’s my favorite show and work of Mike Flanagan. Yes this is a horror show, but the message is clear. Life is not all bad and there are moments to cherish forever. The people we lose are never really gone because they live on through us and their stories. Very overwhelmingly sad, but also very beautiful in its own way.

2025-09-20 22:11:37 +0000 UTCThe concept that each Crain sibling represents a stage in the 5 stages of grief is what elevated this show even further for me. Steven- Denial Shirley- Anger Theo- Bargaining Luke- Depression Nell- Acceptance The way this show is able to put into words the emptiness you feel from tragedy and how it manifests in a multitude of unhealthy ways blows my mind. When I need a good cry I watch hill house or bly manor. Death doesn't mean something is gone forever, people continue to live through the impacts they've had on others throughout their lives and that's such a beautiful thing

2025-09-20 21:18:28 +0000 UTCThis show is something special and it is certainly up there as one of my favorites. One of my theories is that everyone who was in/died in that house is a victim of the house itself. We see with Olivia that even after she died she still holds on to that delusion of her kids needing to be "saved from the world" and "woken up". That makes me think that Poppy as horrible as she is is also a victim of the house and it also slowly drove her mad. I think the house attacks who is most vulnerable either physically or emotionally and feeds on that which is why the clinically insane Hills and the old woman in the sickbed, little boy in wheelchair, and the Crains were perfect targets. We never see Hugh in a version of the red room. Olivia and the kids by extension all having some kind of sensitive something coming from Olivia's side sadly is what made them targets for the house I feel.

2025-09-20 21:11:41 +0000 UTCI’ve watched this show probably 10+ times through and the finale still makes me weep every time. Nell’s monologue is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard and the Dudley’s final scene broke me 😭

2025-09-20 21:00:47 +0000 UTCfr though this is at least my 15th time through and it genuinely doesn’t get easier, every single character deserved so much better than the house preying on their pain. olivia and nell gave every part of their souls trying to keep the family together in both life and death and the way the dudleys loved the crain family so much that they were willing to chance constant emotional torture to try and keep them safe.

2025-09-20 20:36:51 +0000 UTCSteve's character growth is one of the big things I like and appreciate about this show. Cause truthfully, I didn't really like him at first, then I was kind of disappointed in him about the vasectomy and keeping it a secret. But at the end his apology was genuine, and I could see he was a least going to try. 10s across the board for this show.

2025-09-20 20:15:51 +0000 UTCEverything was meant to happen for a reason. Nellie was meant to be there to save her siblings the only way she could. The dad was meant to protect them and save them the only way he could. Love is all there is. No matter how much evil there is in this world, love will always win. It’s stronger and will outlive us all. We all need love. No one is alone when there is so much love carrying us into another day. ❤️

2025-09-20 20:09:50 +0000 UTCThis show is a glorious confluence of acting, writing, and directing. I've spent decades watching and crying over television, but I can't think of anything that has moved me -- both positively and negatively -- as much as this show. At its core, HoHH is about our shared humanity and the universal search for love, which we find only through truth. I've watched this series I don't know how many times and, with each viewing, I glean more from it. It's not only a comfort show for me, but a safe place that allows me to process my own thoughts and feelings and ghosts. Sincere thanks, Queen A, for reacting to this. I'd been hoping for years that you would because I knew you would feel it in your heart and your soul and your guts. It ripped all of them out for me, but I was better for it. I hope you enjoyed the journey and I'm looking forward to whatever you're watching next. I need you to know how much you mean to us. You make us feel less alone, less afraid, more powerful and courageous, but most of all, better understood. *insert Golden Girls theme*

2025-09-20 19:57:08 +0000 UTCI love the Dudley’s so much like☹️☹️☹️ they went through so much and this cursed house & having them push aside their personal beliefs to cope with the loss like wow.

2025-09-20 19:42:28 +0000 UTCI've seen it here and there that some disagreed with the happy ending of this show, but personally, I can't imagine Hill House coming to a close in any other way. It's a bleak show in so many ways. It's filled with loss and tragedy and grief and everything that comes part and parcel with the pain of living, struggling, suffering. But, like you said, love is at its very core. Even while the Cranes are fractured and fighting, distant or despondent, they still cling to the love they have for one another deep down and that love is the thing that makes this story so powerful. It's what helped to make me love this show beyond the scary ghost stuff. Life can be so painful, but even at its worst the care, compassion, and connection you have with the people you hold most dear to your heart can make the insurmountable difficulties seem beatable. It's great stuff. It was so much fun seeing you watch every episode, Alanda. I hope you check out more of Mr. Flannigan's stuff. Thanks for sharing this journey with us!

2025-09-20 19:40:48 +0000 UTCI was wondering why I couldn't remember how this show ended when I could remember the other endings of Mike's work.... I think my brain was repressing the hell out of it because the emotional well that opened was very similar to yours. My god. I shed just a few tears at times throughout, but when the Dudley's went back in??????!!!! SOBBING!!!

2025-09-20 19:33:57 +0000 UTCAnd that's why you NEED to watch all of Mile's work. Trust me! I knew you'd love and really feel Hill House. I've watched a lot of things in my life, but Hill House... is something different. I was very happy watching your videos, thank you, Alanda. I love you. 🩵

2025-09-20 19:33:48 +0000 UTCOH ALANDA your reaction to the shirley/nellie moment destroyed me. I felt the exact same way. Despite her horrible decision and past, she really did try so hard to take care of her family. "I'm sorry I didn't answer the phone." "But you did... so many times." 😭😭😭😭

2025-09-20 19:08:26 +0000 UTCTruly one of the best shows of the past century. A lot of people take issue with it having a happy ending. Personally I think it was always leading there. But it's more bittersweet than anything else. Hugh realizes that Olivia has been consumed by the House's influence, and the only way he can save his family is to die for them and hold the door close. And the Dudleys being the ones to keep people away from Hill House until their very deaths, my god, their BURDENS they've got to carry is too much I swear to god. There is still a deep tragedy surrounding the whole show, but the Crane family coming together in the end for the first time since childhood was where it was always heading.

2025-09-20 19:03:27 +0000 UTCRewatched multiple times and seen reactions from several people. Watched this reaction and STILL bawled my eyes out. I think it’s the realization of new connections every time I rewatch that make this show a masterpiece. Every detail! It’s just perfection.

2025-09-20 18:22:37 +0000 UTCVictoria/Nellie came to the set that day and locked IN. her saving all the siblings and pulling the back from the grip of the house and the ghosts…if you noticed she said “don’t” and “go” to Luke before and then again to save him 🥹 the fact that the house masked itself to lure them all in: reading room for Olivia, game room for Steve, family room for Shirley (😭), dance room for Theo, toy room for Nellie and a tree house for Luke. this show deserves all the awards and praise, can’t wait for you to get into Bly Manor.
