The first time I watched this I was in my 20s. I jokingly said to someone, βItβs a fantastic movieβ¦if one has insomnia.β π Years later, I watched it again and I came to appreciate it. We are so used to the action-packed science fiction movies from the last 40 years. β2001β admittedly plods along and itβs similar to the first βStar Trekβ movie. But in retrospect itβs brilliant filmmaking and itβs Stanley Fβing Kubrick.

It is very likely that when we first discover evidence of alien intelligence, it may be way beyond our ability to understand it. I think that is the point.
I'm always impressed that Kubrick had the foresight to use flat screens on all the monitors instead of CRT tube monitors. Flat screens weren't around til the late 80s.
This movie initially bombed at the box office but developed a following among psychedelic drug users, it was the 60s after all. You just needed to time the peak of your acid trip to the last 15 minutes of the movie!
