"Final Exam" Game Development Story

Hi!

On this day, in the middle of the week, I want to update the Final Exam game development story with another short post.

I want to delve into the history a bit, as this game started many years ago. Right now I can't even remember exactly when the development of this game started. Probably in 2020... Although, the idea to create a platformer game has been with me almost all my life. Ever since I got my first 8-bit gaming console. And when I got a 16-bit console, the idea of creating my own game became my dream.... Of course, in those days, the idea took a completely different form. The “size-difference” theme came to me much, much later.

But let's go back to the time closer to the present moment, to the early 2020s. I, at that time, had absolutely no idea how to make platformers. I started developing the game by creating graphic elements close to the style in which I now create artworks. It was quite difficult and time-consuming. A game in that style is good if I work on it full-time. I can't afford to do that. I was convinced of the failure of my idea after my friends gave me two different game development engines.

The first engine, IF Action, is very simple and intuitive, but has a lot of bugs. And that engine seems to be more dead than alive. At least the support team for this engine has been unresponsive for years. And games created on this engine do not run for everyone.

The second engine, Construct 3, is more complicated (at least for me), but has much more possibilities. At first, I was skeptical about this engine, because to work in it, I had to learn the built-in visual programming language. However, this language turned out to be not too difficult, and now the platformer game is being developed in it. But, to simplify the development, I had to simplify the graphical elements. I hope that in the sequels of the game I will be able to return to the old visuals.

Yes, in this long time, the game has undergone a lot of changes. I could say that its real development started at the beginning of this year. And I really hope the development will be completed this year... But I'm afraid to guess... Life shows that anything can happen...

What's going on with the game's development at the moment?.. To be honest, I can't say anything interesting. That's why I started the post with a story from the past, so that there would be at least something a little interesting in the text.

I continue to fill the last location of the fifth level with enemies. This work is routine, and I can't tell anything interesting about it... Placement of objects, test. Corrections, test... Continued placement... New test... And so on...

It won't be long before development moves to the next stage.

I don't think I need to repeat why I can't update the working build of the game. If someone doesn't know, please read the previous posts.
