"Final Exam" Game Devlog

Hi!

Development of the size-difference game is continuing, and with it the devlog is continuing too.

This week I started the design of the cutscenes that appear when a player loses a life. There will be a separate cutscene with its own size-difference image for each enemy. Initially I planned to have several variants of the cutscene for each enemy, but after estimating the scale of the work, I decided to keep one variant for each enemy.

Blanks for each cutscene have already been made, and images have already been added to two cutscenes. This is in addition to the image for the falling into the abyss scene, which was already added earlier.

In addition to the cutscenes, I've done some work to simplify the gameplay of the first level. At the very beginning of development, the level design was a bit different - there were a few easy locations at the beginning of the level. I decided to remove these locations to use them in another game in the future. Because of this, the gameplay with the remaining locations became unnecessarily difficult initially. I changed the placement of enemy girls in all locations in the level, trying to make a gradual increase in difficulty. Hopefully, I've succeeded. In any case, if needed, I'll make the necessary changes in the future.

While I was optimizing the levels, I found some bug in the behavior of the enemy girl who shoots blue-purple fireballs. Sometimes, occasionally, this enemy girl has trouble switching animations. It doesn't affect the functionality, but it doesn't look very nice. I, for now, did not bother to look for the problem, leaving this work for next week. I will try to fix the bug.

Also, next week, I will continue creating images for cutscenes.

The working build has been updated and is available for paid subscribers. See the pinned for patrons post on the main page.

Images from the cutscenes have already been published this week in separate posts.
