Hello !

This episode is a really good first episode, because it shows all of the narratives arcs and subjects this show is gonna explore. And we have a lot of them ! Maybe too much ? Like so much that if they want to talk about each of them in each episode, they're not gonna have the time to explore them fully, to go deeper in each, and it would be a mistake because they're all really interesting.

Through the story chosen here, they can talk about the european countries who considered others as savages and wanted to just use them, the fact they were fighting between them for that, the businesses made during that period of time, the political scene with these lords fighting to have the power, all of the traitors/spies and lies which can create a lot of cool moments, the religious aspect with this pilot hating christians and the translator being one, the cultural aspect with all of the honor things, the shogun story and the bloodline story of the lord etc.

And I didn't even talk about good ideas in the writing of this episode, like the parallel between the first scene with the captain killing himself and the samurai who wants to do the same but the pilot sees the difference, one lacking courage and the other who wants to die with honor. It's really cool. But for realisation, we're gonna be closer to Vikings, with some cool pictures/musics in a few scenes, but not a real attention to it at each moment.

I'm still french, so I'm still sorry if my english hurts you.

Haha that's a little weird yes, even more because they seem to want to make things more accurately than big movies which talked about that period of time in that country. And thanks for the compliments on the accent 😊

Hello Laura, loved your review. Your English is still better than the English of most Scots I have worked with. The only thing I found really disappointing is that they used a replica of an English ship and not a Dutch ship, it is the base of the whole story.
