Frieren continues to impress me and get so much better. The mage test is definitely putting Fern and Frieren to a very challenging test, it’s great to see their skills alongside all the other mages. The cliffhanger battle seems like it will be so intense, but I can’t wait to see what happens next. It’s such a pleasure watching Frieren with you Jason and Heather, much love guys.

But at the start of episode 17, Frieren herself says that over the course of her life, she’s been defeated by 11 people. What’s wild is that some of them had less mana than her, and she still lost. That’s insane to think about. Maybe we’ll even get to meet some of those people later 👀 It also connects to what the girl fighting Fern says. Fern assumed she was the strongest in the group, probably because she could sense how much mana she was hiding. But the girl corrects her. She says, yeah, her mana might be the highest in the group, but that doesn’t automatically make her the strongest. She even admits that she’d lose to someone with less mana if they had more experience. So now we know: the white-haired guy in the raincoat, the one fighting the girl who loves killing is actually the strongest in their group. I know the names aren’t easy to remember yet (honestly, I don’t remember them either), so I figured these descriptions work better for now :)

2025-06-11 06:56:41 +0000 UTCThis is a test for first class mages, there is less than 50 1st Class mages in the whole country so they are pretty much the top 1%. If the test takers basically get themselves killed during the tests, then they don't deserve to be 1st class mage. That also means if you can be killed by another mages, you don't deserve to be 1st class but each test administrator set the rules for each test.
