You guys are in for a treat! This show goes deep into human psyche, redemption, forgiveness, love, purpose, growing up into manhood. This story is an epic. Unlike the Last of Us where killing Joel super early on was a big mistake narrative wise…Thor’s death will have a greater impact on the story for the better. Trust that this show will be on your top 5 of any type of media.. love you guys

But I do want to add this: Jason, as you are a caring and loving father, I completely understand why this father-son story hit you so deeply - and why it felt like you were robbed of a truly incredible character. You are Thors: a loving dad trying to pass on wisdom, knowing your children will eventually walk their own path. But you’re also Thorfinn, grieving the loss of a man who led with quiet strength and unwavering honour - gone too soon. And I’m right there with you. As for Askeladd…he’s a fox in a world of wolves - clever, unpredictable, and never quite what he seems. Definitely one to watch out for.

They just always have a different feel to them. Watching you guys experience other anime outside of one piece is so refreshing to see. I love seeing your takes on different anime ❤️

Were you using google ai because I copy and pasted the reading and google ai gave me the same thing. Got to be careful...google ai is super inaccurate

Word for those episodes: - umi - Meaning: a sea, an ocean Kanji: 海 Reading: a. English-speaking: 'oo' + 'me' ['oo' like in 'loot', 'mi' as in 'me'] b. Latin alphabet: 'u' [as in 'urban'] + 'mi' [as in 'midnight'] I think it's pretty straightforward. Word 'umi' is used often in a daily language as a sea is a part of nature. I believe in a show about vikings it will be used a lot, you can try and catch it~

This story is amazing, it has only just started. Can't say more without spoilering things but be ready. I had to brace myself through most of the watching... It was hard to keep myself together sometimes. One time, I've managed to hold my tears in but then the ending song suddenly hit me and I ugly-cried... 1. About Askeladd - I could immediately tell he's a complex character. I was very curious what his goal is and why he's out there playing pirates which doesn't seem to suit him. His interest in Thors, how he saw right through Floki's scheme, his respect for Thors he gained after just a short exchange they had, his quick mind when he saw through Thors' strategy (but it was still not enough and Thors beat him in the end). And by his small facial expressions and serious eyes I could tell he was serious when he asked Thors to lead them. Also he honored their duel until the end - he swore on his ancestor, left the rest alive, didn't enslave them, said loudly that Thors won the duel. The only thing he didn't do is to tell his men to freaking release the kid and that makes him a scumbag nonetheless. He couldn't lose respect of his men and thus he let Bjorn play his dirty card of holding a hostage... We could also see how mad he was at the fact he had to kill Thors... He said it to Ari and we could also see his anger later on the ship. He clearly respected him as a warrior and as a man. Also - he let Thorfinn off. When his men proposed to dump him into the sea he seems to coldly say to leave him alone to die but I think he's giving him a chance to survive. 2. About Thorfinn - yeah... The only thing I can tell and still keep telling myself is that he was just a 5yo kid (or 6yo or something) and does not understand his own actions, only copying what he saw from adults... But I can never forgive him for getting on that freaking boat... And not listening to instructions - Thors warned him multiple times to stay back and be careful... We're going to see what becomes of him but I'm mad that the teachings of his father are going right over his head. But he's a kid, I get it... 3. About Thors - I liked him from the first episode and my liking for him peaked at that 4th episode. He was a man amongst the man. I loved him throughout the whole series and despite him not being there anymore it's amazing how his teachings are kind of its own character of the story, always next to us, reminding us of what a true warrior is. And what a father is. And just what a good person is. As I was watching the series my love for him couldn't grow any more but my respect for him did. He's my favorite character in the series. I also loved his connection to his wife, Helga - how they connected without any words needed. In the flashback we can also see how much he has changed after getting a family - from a cold warrior to a true warrior. How he started to be afraid of fighting and violence. He just wanted to protect them and run away to the Iceland... T-T He did not kill any of the pirate aggressors even though it would be well deserved. The true GOAT.

2025-05-08 03:53:25 +0000 UTCIt’s interesting you mention AOT, cuz the same 2 animation studios worked on Vinland Saga (S1 Wit Studio, S2 MAPPA). Thors is an incredible character, despite only spending a short time with him. He’s honorable, righteous, & levelheaded, but he earned that mentality through his experiences from war & fatherhood. His words of wisdom will not only stick with you throughout the story, but are applicable to our own lives. Also…It’s a subtle moment, but I believe Askeladd was serious when he asked Thors to be the leader of his group. But because Thors didn’t answer him immediately, he backtracked & turned it into a joke; to keep up his expected image, keep the respect of his men, & (of course) to fulfill his contract with Floki. Askeladd is a character that is very complex & one of my fave antagonists in all of anime. Yes, he’s deceitful & plays dirty, but you’ll see as you continue that there is immense depth to his character. He is more than what meets the eye. Overall, this is a coming of age story. Though packed with lots of action, it’s a slow build to a big picture message that will hit deeply. It’s intelligence & sincerity masked by the violent world of vikings, like a reminder to look past the ugliness of reality to find the heart & fragility of humanity.

First of all, this is a great show, but it's not a happy show, you will find some similarities with Attack on Titan, with the difference that this is (in my opinion) a more positive kind of show. Don't get me wrong, this show is sad, and crude, and visceral, but it's mixed with beauty and some ideas that are very important, especially for men who have struggled with rage. I love that you guys are watching this show, it'll hurt, but I hope you like it.
