HyperNova dominates the "legitimate" business of Freedom City, but there are two opposed underworld factions.
The Smiles are a motorcycle gang, an organized crime group that is based on hijacking cargo and freight from HyperNova, but is beginning to branch out into other roles associated with organized crime, including protection.
Despite both being criminal groups, they're almost antithetical to the Jokers, an anarchist and disorganized hacker collective, often with heavily moded bodies.
At the start of Act 3, HoloVenus has escaped the frying pan of HyperNova's digital world, only to find herself into the fire of being trapped among the gang of criminals that murdered her physical body only days ago...
