LARP: 16

Quick heads up -- LARP Part 1 will continue/finish in November; going to do a few Halloween-themed posts for the end of the month.

& & &

With Fook charging forward, I was left to follow Kalim's lead--and give Fook some inspiration before he got out of range.

I frantically began to strum at my lute, before I hardly even knew what I was doing, I sang a song that tried to convey my feelings of the moment in a manner that would help Fook crack skulls.

"We won't cower in fear! We'll meet you blade to blade!

You think you're on the attack? Sucks to be you -- This is our raid!"

I began. How silly could I get with this song, really? My heart was still pumping, particularly from Moon pointing a gun at me moments earlier. But I also wasn't sure how many kobolds there were in total; I hoped Fook would be able to handle himself.

"So let's FOOK -- them -- up,

Yes let's FOOK -- them -- up!

You think you're ready to go?

Because honey, you've got to go!"

I taunted the kobolds I could see that were coming in range of him. Their spears held high, they tried to brace themselves as he charged in toward them, his ax crashing down on one even as another slammed a glancing blow into his thigh. Gods be good--Patty was really fucking killing them!

Seeing the blood splatter, I nearly lost my concentration, but instead I just focused on playing the lute--keeping the rhythm going, letting him know that I was right there behind him.

There were more than we initially saw. Two more were scampering up over a roof over him. Fook couldn't even reach them!

Moon leapt up and his wings flapped, landing him on a nearby rooftop. The panels were pretty rickety, but it was solid enough for him to level his pistol at one of the kobolds and pull the trigger.

Seeing Moon supporting Fook, I kept my verses going:

"United we stand! Our bond is forged in blood!

And when we're done your corpses will be quiet and cold."

Hmm, that was a bit of an off-rhyme, but I didn't mind how it sounded. I doubted any of them were focused enough on my words to much care anyway.

I must have been a rather absurd sight, just playing along as the chaos erupted ahead of me.

Kalim was moving in behind Fook, a green tentacle of energy unleashing from her finger and slamming into the second kobold on the rooftop. Even then, another circled around, trying to stab her--and feeling a soft stab of ice rock back into its gut when it did so.

Looking at the last of the kobolds, I turned the end of my song toward them:

"Listen, love, it didn't have to be this way--

Next time you're in doubt, just surrender right away.

But this time, sadly, it's come to pass,

That your life was not meant to last."

This was it! Our first battle, and even though Kalim and Fook were getting hurt, we were going to win! I knew it!
