"In this game," Zoe began, "you will play as heroic adventurers, defending the archipelago from the impending invasion from the continent. The overall theme of the game will be the resilience of light among the darkness. The archipelago is a diverse region of islands with competing interests and factions. The continent, conversely, has fallen under the sway of the Kingdom of Rowlandson, an empire that loathes arcane magic and seeks to instill humans as the sole dominant race of the world. They do use what people in the archipelago would call magic--particularly what they call divine magic--but this they see as given to them by their one god, Koveras."
"The game will begin with your group working on behalf of the city of Cliffside, heading to the island The Fingers, where they recently set up a mine for ship construction."
She paused, looking around, "Does that all sound good so far?"
"Continent bad, us good," Patty said. "Me thump continent."
"Seems straightforward enough," I said.
"Sounds like there'll be some sailing around," Malik said, nodding. "I'm feeling good about my character idea."
"Great!" Zoe said. "In that case, after we talk through tone and limits, we'll think about each of your characters."
"Limits?" I asked. I'd never heard this term before.
