Alternate #1: Trans News Today

I'm not including this in the list to vote on, because it's something that is less being developed and more something I've scrapped and am now playing around with.

I was originally thinking that maybe like, once a week, I could have a character transitioning while reading the news. There's two major issues with this:

a) to give an insightful 'take' on a new story, I usually want to go into way more depth on the subject than a 3-5 panel sequence will allow. I'd probably need like a full issue to explore a topic.

b) I'm genuinely unsure whether you all really would want the more developed takes, or whether, given how many other projects I really want to do, this would just be a distraction.

Partly, my concern is that we're going into an american political election year, and so the temptation will probably come up to respond to some of the crazy things that are going to be said in the next year.

One idea I've been playing with would be to, instead of just having one-off comics commenting on some story of the day, to maybe make it more like my other comics--have it be more of a story, less of an op ed, maybe focusing on one character who is very much in the public eye undergoing a transition. With a realism focus, I suppose.

I don't know that that's a project I really want to focus *over* the other projects I got cooking, but I guess this is my "alternate" to "Elizabeth" basically -- in short, rather than voting on this project vs. all the others, does a comic about a transwoman news reporter transisitioning on the air sound more or less interesting than a comic about a transwoman transitioning after surviving a violent altercation? Or do you like the idea of occasional 'op-ed' style short comics exploring one specific news story? I guess I'm asking myself this same question. Obviously this doesn't have to be an either/or, but in practical terms I'm probably only doing either 'Elizabeth' or 'Trans News Today' in 2024. Perhaps I should do 'Elizabeth' since that might be able to be 'done' in a single issue, whereas 'Trans News Today' would be another recurring series.

If I did do this as a recurring series, it would probably have 'topical' issues interspersed with 'personal' issues. So like:

-Issue 1, coming out to the editor of the station and beginning transition

-Issue 2, first 'investigative report' as a transwoman, focusing on trans athletes

-Issue 3, managing personal relationships with co-workers (mostly the cameraman)

-Issue 4, second 'investigative report,' focusing on neurobiology

etc.

One thing about this series is it would be actively bleeding fiction and non-fiction, i.e. the main character would be entirely fictional and their personal struggles fictional, but all of the studies and 'news' elements would be drawn directly from reality.

Even if I added some elements of romance, this would probably feel more like 'the newsroom' than my light romance projects.

Sorry this was a longer self-ramble than I planned, but let me know if you have thoughts in the comments!
