POV Update and Minor Rant

Hey everyone! I figured it was probably about time for another update. Things have been going more or less okay but I have run into some difficulties that I've been trouble shooting over the last week. Most of the issues seem to be with my new PC and Poser 13. For some reason it won't render worth a damn.

I guess let's take a step back to last week when I decided to purchase and install Poser 13 to my new PC. (I was using Poser 12.) I got it all install and the 200gbs worth of assets and project files transferred over... more or less smoothly. I may have had a minor heart attack/psychotic break when my drive froze and I had to wait for 20 minutes while it repaired the boot sector, wondering the entire time if it was toast, BUT... more or less smoothly.

Once installed my plan was to work on my old PC on some of the lighter scenes while simultaneously rendering scenes on my new PC to cut down wait time. Then at night, I could render on both computers at the same time to (in theory) get twice as much rendered. However, when I put the rendered scenes side by side in the editor, the Poser 12 renders looked great while the poser 13 renders... did not. After lots of poking around it seems that Poser 13 just doesn't render the same way as Poser 12. It seems geared for speed rather than quality and it shows. If I import a good looking scene from Poser12 into Poser13 it looks lousy in Poser13. Then if I save that scene in Poser13 and send it back to Poser 12 it looks shitty like it did in Poser 13 which says to me that Poser13 doesn't even register the lighting the same way.

I've spent days pounding my head off the desk and inventing new swear words while I tried to get Poser 13 to produce some decent images, and in half the cases I couldn't even get the shadows to show up at all. So I'm back to rendering on my old PC for this project in order to keep continuity of quality. I'm trying to figure out how to get Poser 12 onto my new PC to see if that will fix the issue. In the meantime, I'm moving along but at a slower pace, hence the lack of another WIP release. On that front, I'm going to try to get something out in the next few days.

I attached a small comparison video so you can see what I'm talking about as far as the quality difference. I'm open to suggestions if anybody has any experience with Poser 13. For the time being I'm just going to keep chugging along!

Have you checked that you have the latest graphics card drivers installed?

Could always switch to DAZ, start fresh?

It's hard to say without having the scene file, but it looks to me like the lights in the P13 version are set to depth-mapped shadows instead of ray-traced. Could you include some screenshots of the light settings? The lights are animated right? Another possible problem is stale "preview_light" values in the light themselves. Try going to the timeline and expanding one of the lights, then deleting all the keyframes for the "preview_light_" keys. Should have 0_R, 0_G, 0_B, and _1. As a test, you could add a new light that doesn't have animated Intensity and turn off the others to see if that's the issue.
