Micah's step-dad. Cool guy. Takes care of everything in the household. Sighs a lot. His humor is found in his genuine reactions. He's kind of sad and you pity him. In a very cute way. Rubs the bridge of his nose to destress, but somehow always falls for people who bring him stress. Like Micah's mom.

Micah: Hey, old man.

Josiah: I’m forty-two. You will regret saying that in twenty years.

Micah: Why is Mom being weird?

Josiah: She joined the Gay-Straight Alliance for free snacks.

Micah: [laughs] That’s hilarious.

Micah: You better watch out.

Josiah: I’m pretty sure I’m the one bringing most of the gay energy to this marriage.

Micah: I like how you’re self-aware.

Josiah: How are you? Doing well?

Micah: Yeah.

Josiah: It hasn’t been long since you started living on your own. Everything okay?

Josiah: Are the dishes getting washed?

Micah: I know how to wash my own dishes, thank you very much.

Josiah: I wish you had learned that when you were living with us.

Micah: You’re ugly.

Josiah: [sad face]

Josiah: I’m sorry.

Micah: [laughing hard] That was so funny.

Micah: Are you doing well?

Josiah: Your mom is starting her garden again. I’ve been carrying a lot of plants and shoveling a lot of dirt.

Josiah: But yes, I’m doing well!

Micah: [teasing] They’re all going to die.

Josiah: No, they are not.

Micah: Weren’t you the one who had to pull out all the weeds last year?

Josiah: Let me live in my delusions.

The point of adding him to the plot is to understand how Micah came to be how he is today. Brings in character depth with how similar he is to his parents and how Micah envisions life with MC. But better. Also, for the funny interactions.

Character direction:

The tools represent how much Josiah does in the house. From fixing stuff to cooking, he is always on his feet and doesn’t have time to wash up when changing gears. Heterosexual, but doesn’t mind putting on dresses and heels to make the family laugh. Incredibly charismatic, but not in a loud way. In a soft way, where he helps people out and listens to their worries. He’s a likable personality at his company, but not popular. Leaves right when hours are done to help his close circle with tasks.

The guy to call if your car breaks down. His favorite hobby is going on youtube and watching one hour videos of how to do miscellaneous things. He hoards information like he hoards things. He’s had a storage full of untouched arcade machines he’s had to fix and sell for the last 8 years. Everytime he brings something into the house, Micah’s mom sells it. Before they got together, his place was filled to the brim with trash. But now, she sells his $520 collectable figurine for $5. But the house is clean.

Micah looks up to him, and he looks up to Micah. Micah will call him to ask how to do something when he doesn’t want to look up a YouTube video. (Like how to add blinker fluid, change out windshield wipers, and how to build arches for wedding ceremonies .)
