Let's talk - Hannah

I love Hannah.

Not in a physical romantic way of course. But as a fictional character. I created her specifically to be an ideal: absolute perfection in my eyes. It's what got me started in  this whole 3d stuff to begin with: to simply create something that is my vision of perfection. A blonde, muscular blue eyed tanned girl. She's my Mary Sue that makes me ache when I'm forced to bring some flaws into her to make a interesting story. I love that she has two sisters who are equal bombshells. I love how she can go from sexy and seductive to mocking or ashamed. And look ridiculously hot while doing it.

Now that that's out of the way a question might arise to you: she's my favorite and dearest character, she features top and center in the Patreon and DeviantArt Banners and is the girl in each tier. Yet at the same time she's rarely seen in my content. Why is that?

The simple answer is: I love the character, I hate what I've done to her.

Ok, perhaps hate is a strong word to use. I like at least half of her storyline. And am content with the art of the last two, maybe three comics.

And "the last two or three comics" will probably mean nothing to anyone as I've managed to make the storyline so convulated and confusing that I physically cringe when looking back at: and can barely make heads nor tails of it myself anymore. Next to that, when I started this, I went in head first with exploring my most favorite and dearest character without a single clue of character development, storylines, or even art.

Every time I looked back at previous comics for some detail needed for the next comic I got this great desire to just scrap it all and start over again from nothing. Just to have (as we say in Dutch) my courage sink into my shoes from the staggering amount of work it'd take to sort it all out, remake large parts to make them look decent, and wrap it all up into a coherent comic series.

And then my HDD broke, got a lot of files corrupted, and had me waiting over a month for a company to salvage what could be salvaged.

The comics were not among those files that could be salvaged.

At least not in its entirety: all the finished comics are gone from my hard drive (though easily retrievable through online backups like Patreon) including the files where all the text is in. The images without text have all survived and are now all much more securily backed up (and will be even more securily backed up once I get it in the cloud). Though this does mean I can't make any edits to the original comics without rebuilding the text from scratch.

And quite frankly I'm happy for it. When I now look in my "Hannah's Comics" folder on my hard drive it's empty (save for the short stories). And it's almost like a breath of fresh air, a blank canvas (excuse my figurative speaking).

I want to merge together all the good scraps and bits we have from the comics, remake it into a cohesive, sensible storyline that scraps all the nonsense my horny brain inserted into it without thought or sense. And make Hannah the postergirl of my Patreon and DeviantArt again, rather than a forgotten desire.

Anyways I.. just wanted to get that off my chest. I'm currently rewriting the story (which was also lost in the corruption) and will get started on the art really soon. I hope to have the first fresh (though rehashed) comic done within a matter of weeks, but we'll see how it runs!

Thanks for reading my rambling so far, I apologise for it.

Comments

1) So sorry to hear about the data loss wrt hard drive issues. I know how frustrating that can be, but it will pass. 2) I don't share your frustration with Hannah and/or her sisters. Not even sure what you are talking about. Hannah and her sisters are GREAT! Their comics and the stories therein are just awesome brother. Keep up the amazing work and I cannot wait for these gorgeous, fantastically muscled and even more fantastically strong women to return!

Supernatural stuff in Hannah's comic? What are you referring to?

Robolord

Hannah is absolutely gorgeous and you should be very proud of her as your creation. Don't be too tough with yourself. Really happy to see more of her, doesn't matter when. PD: Would absolutely love to see more Amy please!!

Oh for sure! I think a fresh start would be welcome. I'd even really like it if you just showed Hannah, and her older and younger sisters from their less muscular early years growing up and getting swole over time. Like when they were all much smaller and thinner to the present day passage of time. Plus I really prefer your comics where your muscle girls are somewhat grounded in reality, like Lexi and Lee, as opposed to your works where Amazons are basically gods. Like Lexi's growth is still my favorite out of all your works. I do wish you had kept the supernatural stuff out of the Hanna comics though...

Bro, don't be ashamed of your past works. A lot of things are works in progress. Even if things do "get better" over time, it's all part of the experience and maturing as an artist and content creator. But yeah, if you have fresh ideas and want to elaborate on your dream girl, then go for it. And hey, if you really dig Hannah in whatever way you want, that's all you man. No judgement. Look at the myth of Pygmalion. That's one of my favorite Greek myths. And his story has a kick ass ending.

Vanessa is definitely still in progress, though some parts have been lost to corruption as well.

Robolord

I also hope there will be more of Super Vanessa and i think it was Ayala or so. That Comics were awesome too.

Jochen Sauter

I hope she will be a Superheroine , like the one Picture on DA. That one was awesome !!

Great to hear you come to terms with the whole thing. Looking forward to what kind of character Hannah will become now

Sad to hear about the hard drive dying and all the work getting deleted. I guess that things like this are an existential threat for the work all creators make and something we can't influence. It's just bad luck after all. You've created so much and should be able to get it back via patreon i guess and you shouldn't be too bummed out about it. You know your characters and you can recreate it all again, i have no doubt of that. I also completely understand you when you say that you think some of the older Hannah comics are bad in your eyes. I feel the same when i look back at some of my work. I don't think you should restart the whole story. You can just instead give Hannah, Emma and Victoria something like a brand new start like let's say something bad happened and they had to move to a different city. None of their previous stories are "deleted" but due to them moving to a completely different city it's all irrelevant and then you can essentially start a whole new story for them. This is just one idea and i hope you already have something figured out. Would be a shame not to see the girls all together again in a new story : P . Wishing you good luck in bringing Hannah back into the spotlight : ) .

I think we all love her just as much

It definitely won't all be scrapped! If anything a lot will simply be cut and re-attached in ways. The problem is that I dislike the entirety due to the bad parts. With software you can say "it looks crap, it's not how I would've done it now, but it works". But here you simply can't say that, one part fucks up the tone and intent of the entire comic series.

Robolord

LOL, there must be a term for this. Someone in the midst of a creative career has a crisis of confidence, looks back at their early work, declares it is all crap and wants to get rid of it all and start over. Meanwhile the people who are enjoying the work are thinking "this stuff is great, why does the artist want to get rid of it?" I'm a software engineer (which, believe it or not, is every bit as creative as this), and this happens A LOT in my profession. I look back at code I wrote 5-10 years ago and go "WTF was I thinking? This is all crap, I need to get rid of it and start over!" All I can say is that it is never, EVER a good idea to scrap it all and start over. I've seen it tried over and over and over again, and it NEVER turns out well. The work is NEVER as bad as you think it is. Just change the bits you dislike the most, little by little. Eventually, "Ship of Theseus" style, you'll wind up with a whole new body of work you're much happier with, without going through the needless pain of rebooting the whole thing.
