2026-02-16 08:35:44 +0000 UTCJust read it a second time...and I'm realizing that the 'greatest medic' comparison between Tsunade and Matsu is more then just reader fodder. It's probably an in-universe plot, made either by Gengetsu or Matsu, but certainly one Matsu will take advantage of. Think about it. Actual skill is difficult to compare between differing experiences, skills with jutsu or free-form manipulation, medical knowledge, performance under different conditions, etc. But none of that matters because the goal is the reputation. And in that regard, to an audience of noble ignoramuses and mostly non-medical Kiri ninja...Matsu just reattached a head. And was doubtless name-dropped as pioneering most of the hospital during the tour or at any other point of the stay. In comparison Tsunade...is a sexy bitch with the established rep, but she can't SHOW most of it due to her hemophobia (and mixed depression/anger). In other words, she's in a bad spot to defend herself from Matsu usurping her spot as 'the best', at least in the minds of Kiri ninja and the attendant nobles. Which is all Matsu really cares about at this point, because being 'the greatest medic in the world'? That's one more point of legitimacy for when he makes his shot at Kage.

That means she's had approximately thrice the time to learn as Matsu. She was probably also tutored by more skilled medics than Matsu was, and Katsuyu can assist her too. She's canonically been the only one capable of treating Chiyo's poisons, and I think this has already happened in this timeline, so her skill is still at the pinnacle. I doubt Matsu could do that. Matsu's main advantage is his knowledge of what is possible. He can anticipate what treatments are supposed to look like and knows how to create an advanced medical environment. My estimation is that Kiri definitely has the best medical industry overall, but Tsunade is still ahead of Matsu in every discipline she has experience with. Matsu has some tricks up his sleeve that Tsunade hasn't even considered yet, though. Hard to quantify who comes out ahead.
