Hard Enough - Chapter 321 - Legendary Perspective
Added 2025-04-28 19:00:08 +0000 UTCMewtwo could sense the two pokemon marching into the cavern of wood they’d walked into.
It surprised him that Sabrina hadn’t noticed them until they’d gotten closer. Was this merely a sign of deficiency? Of how inherently weaker she was as a human?
Mewtwo held back a sigh.
He might have assumed that, months ago, but with how often he had exchanged information with the girl he had come to recognise certain tells in her bearing.
When she slumped her shoulders and gained a slight darkness to her typically bright gaze, she was tired. With the earlier comment about the crystals being different for herself and Brock, Mewtwo felt a stirring of…
Concern?
He felt concerned and a tinge of regret?
Should he have carried part of her burden by offering to lift the two oafs in their group?
Mewtwo glanced at Brock and Lucario. No, he could no longer deem them mere oafs. They were much more than that.
They were… interesting. Certainly more than what they seemed at first glance.
Lucario, as the newcomer had seemed out of touch with the world, except he had a perfectly valid reason for his state of being. He also had a significant strength within his form. Mewtwo was almost interested in how.
Brock had a much deeper insight into the world even if his knowledge of it sometimes seemed prescient. Of course, Mewtwo had long ago confirmed that the boy had no such abilities. If he did he would have known how ridiculous it was to have allowed that Tyranitar to face him without support from other pokemon.
Except… from that fight… he had gained an understanding of the ‘weight’ of emotions that the female had carried after the destruction of her nest.
As a clone, born from the machinations of mankind's science, Mewtwo knew no mother.
He barely knew love… Only when he dreamed of her, did he remember kindness in those early days and that… That had taken a long time of introspection to uncover.
The conditioning that Team Rocket had subjected him to was certainly powerful. Still, he had peeled it back, layer by layer and gotten control of his mind.
Sabrina often suggested that he had to go further with his introspections, mentioning that the mind and heart were connected in ways she was still uncovering herself.
Mewtwo had scoffed at her each time she mentioned it.
He hadn’t scoffed after seeing that girl on their first day in Rota.
She had looked so very like Amber. They shared a smile, a laugh, a glimmer in their eyes, and a kindness in her gaze.
That had caused his mind and heart to stir, allowing Mewtwo to understand Sabrina’s wisdom for the first time.
The heart and mind were connected.
Sadly in ways he still failed to grasp.
“Well this is looking quite promising!” announced Brock.
Mewtwo almost smirked as Brock rolled his shoulders, relaxing as he inspected the cavern they’d entered.
“You shouldn’t have said that,” Sabrina replied as her eyes narrowed and she drew herself up, pushing aside the fatigue. Good, she’d finally sensed the threat.
Mewtwo watched as Brock’s expression fell as Regice and Registeel emerged.
“Intruder! Intruder!” chimed Registeel as it strode forward.
“Eliminate! Eliminate!” replied Regice as it skated out on its much sharper legs.
Brock stepped forward, his eyes blazing as the will to fight ignited within him, only for Sabrina to snatch him back and reprimand him. Mewtwo almost scoffed at the arrogance Brock displayed, only to catch the way Brock’s eyes flicked up and down Sabrina’s body.
Ah, the boy had also noticed her fatigue then? Hmm was his attempt to step forward and fight an attempt at chivalry instead then?
Sabrina and Brock spoke with each other in short, precise terms with both quickly shifting into a fighting formation with Pokémon. Their plan taking shape within moments of the two Legendaries stepping into the cavern.
Mewtwo watched them work, interested that they had a plan for a situation like this. Had they had a plan in mind when they’d come to his island? Did they still have one if they had to fight him?
Mewtwo shook his head.
It would be laughable for them to attempt to formulate a plan against him.
He wasn’t like any they had faced before.
Since he had escaped Team Rocket’s attempted control he had grown.
He was far stronger and was growing more so each day as control of his powers improved.
“Follow orders! Activate purge!” chimed Registeel as it raised its thick arm. Mewtwo had all of a moment to wonder what it meant, then it slammed its fist into the crystal next to it, setting off a chain reaction that caused a pulse of energy to sweep through the tree.
To Mewtwo it felt like listening to a heartbeat thumping away. Where moments before there had been nothing now the whoosh of blood was cascading all around him.
Oddly, Sabrina didn’t appear to notice, which caused Mewtwo to scowl.
No, there was no chance that even in her weakened state she couldn’t hear the thrumming. Mewtwo inspected himself. No, the sensation he had wasn’t being transmitted psychically, it was something else, some connection that he’d only barely felt once before.
It was when his mind warred with the controls that Team Rocket had installed.
For a moment as he’d struggled something else had pulsed and the controls had shifted, hadn’t they? It had felt like something… outside his understanding had pulsed, inspiring and adding to his reserves of strength in a way he hadn’t ever been able to tap into.
Here and now he could feel it once more but it confused him more than answered any questions.
What was this sensation? Why did he feel like he could draw from this feeling and become… more than he was?
Was this the Tree of Beginning?
Was this part of the defensive measures that it had grown? A method of ‘empowering’ pokemon that answered its call and defended it?
Mewtwo couldn’t be sure why but he felt like he only had part of the answer, like there was more to this. Keeping half a mind on the fight that turned into a retreat as rainbow-like blobs emerged from the crystal, Mewtwo followed as Brock and Sabrina fled atop Rapidash.
An attack from Lucario destroyed one while another was handled by Brock’s Swampert.
“It might be nice for you to pitch in!” Brock shouted at Mewtwo.
Mewtwo scoffed, holding back the urge to throw Brock off Rapidash and leave him for the Legendary pokemon to deal with. He could feel them stalking towards their group using overlapping fire with Hyper Beam after Hyper Beam to keep up a constant pressure even as Brock and Sabrina’s pokemon defended while falling back.
“You have this well in hand and don’t need my assistance,” Mewtwo affirmed as his attention shifted to the thrum of intent swept through him once more, asking him to defend the Tree of Beginning.
They made it out onto the branch once more and were quick to form a defensive formation in front of the tunnel, while other pokemon started monitoring the crystals. They looked to be in a good position.
Then a pulse of power heralded another combatant.
Mewtwo felt something stir within him as he turned, the control around his body tested as a powerful wind attempted to push him back.
A mighty bird of reds and golds swept forth and shrieked at them all. “Well, well, well! What do we have here?” chimed the voice, but for some reason Mewtwo felt there was something wrong, like some trick was being played.
The voice wasn’t just spoken but also telepathically.
The ‘Ho-Oh’ inspected them all only to pause on him and snort. “Oh look, a runt! Run along little pokemon”
Mewtwo shifted, his tail lashing behind him wildly as he began to pull on his psychic might properly.
“You dare challenge me?” he announced as he took a fighting stance.
The Ho-oh locked eyes with him and rather than quail, it gained a malicious glint in its eyes before its body shimmered and puffed away, revealing itself to be Mew.
“Ho? What’s this? Think you can play a proper game runt? I’m keen if you are!” Mew wiggled with glee and then cupped its own hands and channeled a Psybomb in its grip.
“Good!” growled Mewtwo as he channelled more power into his attack.
Mewtwo got off his attack first causing a Psybomb to rocket straight at the giggling Mew.
Mew, instead of facing the attack, drifted to the side. “Nope! No good!” it chimed as it replied with one of its own.
Mewtwo scoffed and evaded himself.
“There see! You get it! Aren’t you glad little runt! Mew taught you something neat!”
“I already knew how to dodge!” snapped Mewtwo in response.
Mew nodded. “Yup yup! You sure did!” it then gained a glimmer of something dark in its gaze. “Lets try double time now!” it held up both arms and upon each two bombs of psychic power began to form.
Mewtwo blanched. Was this some trick? An ability Mewtwo had yet to encounter? Two Psybombs?
Sabrina’s head snapped towards the Mew. “Mewtwo! Take your fight away from us or you’ll blow us off the tree!” she shouted.
Mewtwo grimaced but did so, dodging high and away from his companions.
Mew followed by launching twin Psybomb one after the other. “That’s it, you’re doing great dodging but don’t slip up now!” cheered Mew.
Mewtwo felt his anger bubbling beneath the surface as the tiny Mew pursued him away from his companions.
Mewtwo juked to the left, then down, before sweeping up and along the trunk of the tree, swerving as he went with explosions ringing out behind him.
“Oh wowie! Look at you go!” gushed Mew.
Mewtwo wanted to snarl and fight back but he knew he had to hold off until he was clear.
The instant he crossed the boundary of where his fight might spill over, he whirled around and unleashed a Psybeam straight at Mew only for it to dodge by spiralling to the side.
“Woah! That was close! You almost got me there!” chittered the Mew as it held its stumpy little hands in front of its face and giggled at Mewtwo.
“My tu—” Mew started to declare, like a child that was taking turns with a game instead of actually fighting.
Mewtwo’s hand snapped up and a red pulse exploded off him and slammed into Mew, causing it to buckle as Disable denied Mew the use of its Psybombs sputtered out.
Mew gaped. “Hey! That’s not fair!”
“Heh!” Mewtwo smirked, he hadn’t thought it at first but observing Sabrina’s training did have some benefits. He would have to thank her later. Those sessions had given him a unique insight into how to fight against another Psychic pokemon.
Mew puffed its cheeks out in annoyance. “You big dumb-dumb! That’s not how you play!”
It tilted its head and rolled to the side to evade Mewtwo’s next strike against it. “Or were you upset that I was stronger than you?”
Mewtwo felt his brow twitch. “You are not stronger than me!” he snarled back.
Mewtwo vanished in a short ranged Teleport and appeared to the side as Mew’s next Psybomb was forced to miss. Mew shook its head sadly. “Oh you sad young runt, you have no idea do you?” Mew rolled again to the side and smiled at Mewtwo. “Let me show you the difference,” it announced.
Then its form began to shine as it elongated and warped physically.
Mewtwo blinked and began to create another attack only to falter when it came time to launch his attack as instead of facing Mew, he now found that he was staring at a copy of himself.
‘Mew’ shifted erratically. “Wowie this body is different! So like mine but yet not! You’re kind of a chunky monkey Mankey aren’t you?” Mew singsonged while it made a show of grabbing his now much larger tail.
“You have to be the most annoying pokemon I have ever encountered!” snapped Mewtwo as a rage started to build within him. How dare this psychic Ratata steal his form and mock him!
Just as he was about to unleash yet another attack Mew glanced up, directing a mocking look Mewtwo’s way. “Also, Transform doesn’t just change me physically,” it announced as its eyes turned black.
“But you’re not smart enough to realise that yet, are you?” declared Mew with an admonishing waggle of its finger.
Dark energy washed over Mewtwo and Mewtwo snarled as Taunt went into effect.
Mewtwo started to match Mew with a Taunt of his own only for Mew to fire back with Disable.
It smirked and Mewtwo had to admit that he’d never seen a face so detestable staring back at him. “There! Now you have to play the game properly!” declared Mew as it cupped its hands in mimicry of Mewtwo’s earlier stance.
“You are an annoyance!” Mewtwo replied as he matched Mew, knowing what was about to come.
Both of them unleashed the most powerful Psybeams they could and the world turned purple, pink and black as energies collided only to refract erratically from the point of meeting.
The trunk of the tree began to scour where the energies cut into the bark and small gouts of smoke started to waft up but went unheeded by either combatant.
Mewtwo growled and pushed harder with his energies willing his beam to overpower that of the annoying trickster.
Instead of blasting Mew away however Mew also doubled down. “Oooooooooh! This is fun!” chirped Mew.
It sickened Mewtwo to see such a giddy expression on his own face and he pushed harder, wanting more than anything else to be able to wipe it away.
Eventually both he and Mew had to cut off their Psybeam as their energy tanked. Mewtwo clenched his hands in annoyance. He’d been matched evenly…
He wasn’t stronger than this Mew…
Mewtwo narrowed his eyes. “You said you matched my power level with that transformation of yours?” he asked as a niggling thought occurred to him. Had Mew… weakened itself to face him evenly?
Mewtwo pushed the thought aside. No, it couldn’t be.
Mew nodded, causing its copy of Mewtwo’s face to bounce up and down giddily. “Yup yup! That way we could have more fun together! Oh now that the beam game is over you want to play tag?”
“What? No! Cease thi—” Mewtwo started to say only for Mew to race forward.
“Eiii! I’m it, don’t get tagged!” Mew cheered with a hand raised.
Mewtwo flew backwards, annoyed that he was having to indulge this infantile pokemon.
“I am not playing!” he snapped as he ripped up chunks of bark and began to hurl them at Mew.
“Yes you are! You’re just not allowing yourself to have fun yet is the problem!” cheered Mew as it darted around a wave of bark. It raised its own hand and Mewtwo found himself suddenly having to dodge strips of bark and leaves himself.
The two pokemon raced around and around and Mewtwo felt his anger continue to grow as Mew forced his hand over and over again. Eventually it grew too much and Mewtwo unleashed his anger in a radiating shockwave of psychic power.
It caused debris from the trunk to be blown away.
“ENOUGH! I WILL NOT BE SUBJECTED TO YOUR WHIMS!” Mew roared as he whirled about, preparing to unleash his next strike upon Mew.
Mew stalled in its pursuit of him to stare only to slump. “Alright if that’s what you want,” said Mew dejectedly. It dropped the transformation and resumed its rightful appearance.
It cupped its hands in a mockery of Mewtwo’s stance and built up yet another Psybeam.
Mewtwo drew on all his anger, all his resentment, and every memory of his creation which he poured into the attack. When he fired off this Psybeam it was at least twice as large and he roared out his emotions.
Mew stiffened, its eyes widening at the increase in power. “Oh… I see now,” it murmured only to twist and respond with a beam of its own.
The two attacks once again slammed into each other and this time the refracted energy tore huge gouges into the Tree of Beginning. Mewtwo felt it then, a pulse of something connect with him. It was like an urge to protect something washed over him.
Mewtwo had no care for it however and instead continued to pour every scrap of power he could into defeating Mew.
Only for Mew to hold its place, matching him for power. Mewtwo glared at Mew only for Mew to look back with a sad, pitying look. “I’m sorry you’ve gone through so much while being so young,” said Mew seriously.
Mewtwo almost faltered.
This had to be a trick of some sort.
He maintained his focus only for Mew to sigh. “You’ve got potential young one, but let me show you the difference age can give you.”
And then Mew stopped holding back and pushed.
Mew’s Psybeam swept forward, blowing through Mewtwo’s and leaving him stunned as it slammed into him and blew him back into a branch of the Tree of Beginning that cracked and groaned.
A moment later it snapped and began to fall to the forest below.
In a dent in the tree Mewtwo stared at the tiny figure that hovered closer slowly.
“You… were always stronger?” Mewtwo gasped through the wave of pain.
Mew nodded. “I… just wanted to play…” then it shook its head and laughed sadly. “Also… you should have dodged that last attack.”
Mewtwo grimaced. “So… I’m not stronger than an original,” he said as a wave of fatigue caught up with him.
Mew shook its head. “You’re thinking about this all wrong, trying to rush ahead. Don’t be in such a hurry young one. You’ve got some great potential, some of the best I’ve ever seen. You’re going to be great. Maybe greater than me and the others. Maybe even stronger than the nightmare or the dream or the rulers of time and space.”
Mew stared out over the forest in quiet thought only to look back down. “But you wont get there like this. You’re hurting and lashing out.” Mew put a short hand to its tiny chest. “I just wanted to play and show you how far you have to go.”
Mewtwo felt shame course through him, fighting with the fatigue to make him bow his head. “I… apologise,” he said.
Mew tilted its whole body in consideration. “Huh, I wasn’t expecting that from you young one. You’ve got good manners!” Mew grinned “Must be those friends of yours rubbing off on you! They looked like nice ones!” Mew chimed.
Mewtwo almost denied Mew’s claim out of reflex only to pause and give it some thought. Sabrina… Sabrina was a friend.
The feeling that had been nagging at Mewtwo since Registeel activated the defense mechanism of the tree stirred once more and Mewtwo shook his head. “Urgh! What is that feeling?”
Mew blinked. “Huh?” It drew closer to Mewtwo and stared. “Oh! You can feel the Will of the World as well can’t you?” Mew wiggled back and forth. “Oh, you will be strong if you can feel that so young!”
“What?” Mewtwo asked as he dredged up what remained of his energy to use Recover.
A sheen of energy swept over him and the pain faded but Mewtwo didn’t move from his place within the hollow. His physical body healed but the gaping abyss of his energies made him linger.
Mew twirled in the air before him. “Hmmm how to explain this… Oooooh I know!” chimed Mew as it spun to face Mewtwo. It then extended its tail and tapped Mewtwo on the head.
Mewtwo felt Mew’s mind push into his as a memory took hold of a being like the sun, powerful beyond belief as it hovered above the land.
It did not speak, it imparted wisdom and the laws of the world with a flex of its will and Mewtwo felt small before it.
Mewtwo shuddered as the memory faded. He blinked and found Mew poking him with its long tail. “Sorry about that! It’s a powerful memory,” Mew said contritely.
Mewtwo could only nod. “Who… what was that?”
Mew smiled, “That was Arceus,” said the little pokemon as if that answered…
“Arceus? The God pokemon that humans speak of?” Mewtwo asked.
Mew nodded. “Hmhmm! That’s them! Arceus imparts special roles upon pokemon that reach certain levels of strength. Mostly that means Legendary pokemon like the nightmare or the dream or the rulers of time and space but there are others that have risen,” declared Mew solemnly.
Mew stared at Mewtwo. “You’ll gain the connection one day and will become able to sense when the world or a place of importance is in danger and needs defending.” Mew smiled. “I think you’ll be a wonderful Guardian.”
It then straightened up. “But don’t be in too much of a rush! Otherwise you’ll be boring! Let yourself play around some! Learn to laugh a bit! You showed some good skills there when you stopped trying to just blast me!”
Mewtwo glanced away, knowing that he’d only done so thanks to observing Sabrina train.
Mew giggled. “Should we go check on your friends?”
“They’re not all my…” Mewtwo shook his head and drifted out of the hollow. “Very well,” he replied.
Mew bounced on the spot only to glance around. “Oh better put out the fires first,” it said. Mewtwo glanced around, noting that one side of the tree looked rather blackened from where they had fought. .
Shame swept through him that he’d damaged the tree but he wasn’t sure if that was due to the ‘Will of the World’ or his own shame coming through.
He shook his head and watched as Mew transformed into a large shimmering blue Articuno that swept over the swathes of fire. Rain Clouds formed and torrents of water began to drizzle down with steam drifting upwards as the fires were extinguished.
Within seconds the entire stretch of burning wood was dealt with.
Mew signalled for Mewtwo to follow it with a shimmy of its tail.
“Come on! Come on!” Mew urged as it raced away only for Mewtwo to catch up quickly. Mewtwo allowed himself a brief smirk as he raced past Mew.
It seemed in this form it was much slower.
They arrived back at the branch in time to watch Brock and Sabrina knock back Regice and Registeel with two of their own pokemon.
Brock went for the victory by having his Steelix sweep in and wrap itself around Regice, crushing it between the metal carapace.
“Eliminate! Eliminate!” Regice continued to chime.
Mew reformed into its smaller body. “Oh, it looks like my toys gave them some fun.”
“Toys?” Mewtwo asked, watching as Sabrina’s Claydol worked in synchronization with Medicham to deliver powerful blows that sent Registeel staggering. Mewtwo watched and had to admit that the fights were rather one sided. The Regice and Registeel, for all their power and durability were rather direct, making the fights easy to handle for Brock and Sabrina.
“They are like automatons,” Mewtwo said slowly, his mind questing out to feel the dull sparks within each Regi.
“Mmmmm, yes they are rather dull,” replied Mew lazily. “I made them up from some things I had lying around. They’re not very fun toys. I much prefer the things I find the humans leave out for me.”
“They’re pokemon though…” Mewtwo said, feeling strangely off balance by this conversation.
“Well actually they are creations of mine for a time when I needed sentries to help defend the tree. The tree itself has grown strong enough to not really need us in truth,” replied Mew as it waved a negligent hand towards where Lucario was destroying red blobs that were shaped like pokemon with Aura Spheres.
“Hmm been a long time since someone’s been able to do that. Oh well if they keep pushing they’ll be overwhelmed soon enough,” Mew waved dismissively. “We’ll ask them to stop before that however, not very fun to watch people be devoured.”
Mewtwo shifted, still caught on what Mew had said earlier. “The Regis… You said you created them?”
“Hmmm oh yes, it’s one of the benefits Arceus granted me for my duty here. There are naturally formed Regis I’m told, but I’ve never encountered them. These are simple beings that don’t have much going on up here,” Mew declared as it tapped its head with its tail. “Dreadfully boring toys,” it lamented.
“...” Mewtwo stared. What came next he wasn’t sure why he asked it, but still he felt it needed to be said. “Their minds are simplistic things but what of their hearts?” he asked.
Why was that so important to say? Mewtwo found himself unsure of the reason.
Mew blinked at him and shrugged. “What of them?”
Mewtwo frowned, Mew—or at least this Mew in particular— was very whimsical if not childish in its approach to everything. “Would you mind if another were to take care of them?” he asked.
Mew gave him a long searching look as beneath them Brock and Sabrina both readied pokeballs.
Mew nodded. ”I wouldn’t mind losing them…” It said only to brighten. “But I do have to ask for permission… asking for three new ones might be a bit much… hmmm one I could get away with!” Mew began to wiggle hopefully. “The old bunch are rather boring, maybe I could get a Regipsycho! Or a Regibravo!”
Mew turned on the spot. “Hmmmm probably best not to be too greedy. Maybe a Drago,” it muttered to itself.
Mewtwo wasn’t sure what to make of that but he felt slightly annoyed. “You shouldn’t be so blasé about them.
“Oh, I might see if the new batch are more interesting but give it a hundred or so years and I’ll probably grow tired of them,” Mew replied airly. “Come, let’s end the fighting and calm the tree before I have to do anything serious.”
Mew drifted down. “Enough! Stop!” it chirped and the Regis stopped.
“New orders. Stopping!” beeped Registeel while Regice merely went still, like a puppet with its strings cut.
Brock and Sabrina glanced towards Mewtwo only to flick their eyes towards Mew.
Sabrina coughed. “Do we have you to thank for this?” she asked as Lucario destroyed another red blob.
“Hmmm, yes!” chimed Mew. “I’ve had my fun so we best stop before the tree becomes more agitated.” Mew glanced towards Lucario. “Also I think he’d become sad if his friend was hurt so now is a good place to stop.”
Mewtwo frowned. Who was Mew referring to?
Mew drifted towards the nearest patch of glowing red crystal and put its tail to it.
A pulse of energy rippled through the crystal and the surging crystals calmed back to the rainbow like colouration.
Both Brock and Sabrina relaxed slightly as Lucario drew back to them, panting from its exertions. Brock glanced around and straightened. “Sooo, what happened?” he asked cluelessly.
“Much,” Mewtwo replied, not willing to mention that he’d come up short against Mew.
Brock gave Mewtwo a searching look but wisely didn’t press for more, instead just nodding. His eyes flicked towards the Regis. “So I guess it would be poor form to catch those two?” he asked.
Mew wiggled. “I’d get in trouble if I had to reform more than one!” chirped Mew. Mew then waved for them to follow it. “Come on! Let’s go somewhere fun instead of hanging about here!” it said before flying away.
Sabrina coughed and relayed what had been said causing Brock to glance between everyone. “I have so many questions about that,” he said, indicating Mew’s back as it disappeared into the tree hollow.
Mewtwo smirked. “And Mew won’t give you any answers,” he taunted.
Brock gave Mewtwo an annoyed look only to sigh. “You know what, I’m not surprised by that.” He then gave Mewtwo a more serious look over. “Are you alright?”
Mewtwo blinked. He hadn’t expected that. “I’m fine,” he replied after a moment’s hesitation.
Brock’s stare intensified if anything, only for him to eventually shrug and nod. “If you say so, then that’s all I’ll say,” he said.
Sabrina giggled and when Mewtwo sent her a query about it she just shook her head.
Mewtwo scowled at having his taunt rebound like that. Lucario merely walked past him with a polite nod.
The group walked past the Regice and Registeel who didn’t so much as twitch in response. Mewtwo shook his head. “Truly, they are but empty shells.”
Brock shot Mewtwo another look before flicking his eyes towards the Regis. “Huh, is that so,” he said as though he understood.
Mew darted back out before Mewtwo could ask Brock what he was thinking. “Hurry up! I want to show you my toy pile! Then you can do your boring things!” it snapped.
Mewtwo sighed and led his group further into the Tree of Beginning, following after the suddenly insistent Mew.
When they reached a clearing Mewtwo was surprised to find it was a central space that had natural sunlight filtering into it through the overhead branches. There was even a small pond.
Stack high atop a grassy patch of earth were human children’s toys.
Brock perked up. “Oh nice!” he said. “These are pretty cool!”
“Aren’t they?!” cheered Mew, getting right into Brock’s face only for the rock brained idiot to merely smile and reach for the closet toy and begin playing games with Mew.
Mewtwo settled on the ground watching in disbelief as Brock began playing with Mew.
Sabrina moved next to him. “So, fine hmmm?” she asked.
Mewtwo just shook his head, unable to deny the fatigue he felt. “I can’t believe I lost to that,” he muttered.
Sabrina just giggled. The noise sounded oddly right and it allowed Mewtwo to relax just a little more.
Perhaps he might even have a nap.

A.N. Thanks go to my patreons for your continued support.
Sadly Mew can only share one of its toys.
Also the Regibravo and Regipsycho comments are very much my attempts at guessing what the next versions of Regi will be made. I think it would be fun to see a psychic and fighting type get made up but those are merely speculation. Will they ever show up? Probably not… who knows, thought I’d attempt something.
Thanks go to Twmmy for proofreading this chapter!

2025-04-29 00:33:14 +0000 UTCIt's a shame Brock and Sabrina couldn't get the other two, but this is confirmation for Regirock at least! And though it is apparently closer to an automaton than a person at the moment, that can change and in fact would only make it easier for Brock since he won't have to deal with a Legendary ego from the start. ...if you think about it, this is exactly what Giovanni wanted out of Mewtwo, only for Brock to get it.

2025-04-28 21:38:03 +0000 UTCI think it might be best to send the regi with Brock, actual stimulus with other pokemon should give them that space of intelligence. I think they are maybe 70% there with how regirock was with brock.
Big ToFu
2025-04-28 21:20:34 +0000 UTCI love that you made mew more powerful than mewtwo but not antagonistic maybe mewtwo will visit mew more often just to talk or vice versa wouldn't mind seeing more mew in later chapters either.

2025-04-28 20:21:02 +0000 UTCThought you were going for a flying type Regiwith the name 'Regibrave'.

2025-04-28 20:19:35 +0000 UTCI’m wondering if Mewtwo is going to start training with Sabrina. This is the first time he’s really come up short in a way where he can’t brush it off as being under control or outnumbered. I doubt he’d ever go into a pokeball but Hero Twain could be a fun role for him.
DigDoom
2025-04-28 20:15:58 +0000 UTCMew perfectly embodying a playful yet powerful fae creature

2025-04-28 20:05:55 +0000 UTCAmazing POV chapter. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's revelations.
Jericho Rising
2025-04-28 19:51:43 +0000 UTCI like the idea of him having to work to get more than the one, new location for each new regi
Jericho Rising
2025-04-28 19:50:30 +0000 UTCKids want to grow up; adults want to be kids again sometimes. Mew would be a good Yoda
Petrox
2025-04-28 19:48:03 +0000 UTCThese Regis may have started as kind-of-automatons, but Regirock already showed some base emotions with it's annoyance and confusion during battle. My guess is that in all those millennia since created they hadn't a lot of opportunities to have interactions other than their main directive. Now, Regirock will be forced to socialise and in such develop a deeper personality.

2025-04-28 19:46:54 +0000 UTCIf you want to talk about speculative pokemon, I've been not seriously waiting for a solar eclipse ursaluna. If a blood moon exists ...
Forint
2025-04-28 19:44:30 +0000 UTCHuh so I guess regirock is an automaton? I'm assuming they'd gain sentience eventually maybe?

2025-04-28 19:33:16 +0000 UTCThank you for the chapter, I am excited for more of this amazing story
HyruleChampion
2025-04-28 19:31:30 +0000 UTCExcellent chapter. I loved Mewtwo's POV.

2025-04-28 19:30:32 +0000 UTCNow Brock just needs to let Mew know that Suzie also host regular tea parties and that Mew is invited.
Dangit889
2025-04-28 19:29:24 +0000 UTCIt would be so great if Mew and Brock teams up to prank Lance with the Regidrago. How jealous would he be if Brock comes back with videos/pics of a dragon type Regi while also showing off his own captured regirock.

2025-04-28 19:27:17 +0000 UTCMew, so old she... he... they(?) reached a form of enlightment that appears like nonsense to others. I think Mewtwo healed emotionally somewhat in that encounter. Wonder what he'll do next?
ShinLupin
2025-04-28 19:26:58 +0000 UTCMew very much gives off a trickster god vibe. Mercurial, a bit of a prick, but not intentionally cruel.
rezo42
2025-04-28 19:26:34 +0000 UTCMew perfectly represents the eternal child trope. Both kind and giving but also sometimes thoughtless and crass. He was wonderful to Mewtwo ultimately but the way he called Mewtwo a runt and his treatment and behavior of the Regis shows that sometimes sharper edge children have who are too young to be completely empathetic.

2025-04-28 19:26:15 +0000 UTCI assume the nightmare and dream are Darkrai and Cresselia. Hopefully that means Sabrina and Brock will meet them someday. Also super sad Brock only gets one Regi, although it sounds like it will be difficult for him to teach his Regi how to think for itself and gain a will of its own. Maybe the other Regis will be caught by Brock in Hoenn in their sealed caves.

2025-04-28 19:23:30 +0000 UTCI love that brock just instantly started playing with mew just like he would with his siblings, it's perfect

2025-04-28 19:23:28 +0000 UTCThis was absolutely not where I expected the fight to go, but I loved it all the same. And yah, Mew is whimsical, absolutely in character for them to act this way. Nice World building by the way, having Mewtwo feel that connection to Guardianship that Arceus has set up for various legendaries.
Homeless One
2025-04-28 19:21:53 +0000 UTCGreat chapter. Can't wait for the next one.
