Game Updates & Delays
Added 2020-03-09 21:02:22 +0000 UTCHi All,
OHH and I have been talking about how to handle cases when we're not able to put out a new build. Our first thought was 'pay-per creation' where you guys would only be charged when we release a new build, unfortunately the payment plan I had active prior to launching Dwindling Away actually locks us out of this option (see red text: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000118666-Change-how-I-charge-my-patrons#month_to_per )
This leaves us with a bit of a problem. We don't want to charge everyone for content they aren't receiving, but at the same time there is no guaranteed way that we can deliver a major content patch every month. One option is to do smaller content patches. Something like a story segment or a new side quest while we work on a more major update. After these smaller updates its likely the following month will contain a major update.
The second option is to pause billing for months where we don't have big patch ready. This would defund the game somewhat but would give everyone a lot of value for their support.
So we want your feedback! Whatever the community decides is fine with us. We're committed to making Dwindling Away great and hopefully what we've already accomplished on that front speaks for itself.

I'll leave this poll open for the time being but at this point there are enough votes in for OHH and I to make plans to move forward with smaller updates.

If you are feeling guilty about not having any game to release each month and want to provide some content of some variety, then drop a zip file with some WIP artwork or try tasking the community with some small competitions or something. Just don't go dark, you know.

2020-03-10 01:36:49 +0000 UTCThe original purpose of Patreon is to act like Kickstarter in that patrons are funding a creator to keep doing what they're doing. The whole exclusive, locked-behind-a-wall-stuff many western creators are doing is a perversion of that. Basically, so long as you're working on the game, I'm fine with donating 10 USD per month until I'm no longer able to support you at that level. If there isn't a build ready every month, that is fine. Just make sure you show previews or development logs that you're actually working on the game to appease those concerned with such things. Speaking for myself, I haven't downloaded or played the newest demo, since I would rather wait until there is more content, or content that immediately strikes my fancy. If you were to release that demo publicly, it wouldn't demotivate me from supporting you, and I would hope your other patrons share this kind of sentiment.
