How important is Voice Acting?

Every poll option assumes that the quality of the voice acting is 'okay'. This does not mean super-polished AAA voice acting and also does not mean very low quality VA where the lines are cringy. Somewhere in the middle is where things will end up. That being the case, how important are voice lines to you?

Fortunately we're doing all our illustrations in-house so this isn't really a concern for us. That said, I don't think we'd sacrifice quality anywhere just to get voice acting (unless it was some truly mindblowing VA).

As someone who has worked with game companies that hired CV (Character Voice Actors), I would recommend voiced dialogue being something you should only consider until after you've completely finished the game. That way you can avoid having to redo the voices in scenes you need to change in the future. One of the pitfalls for I-Raf-You when they were creating 'Shrink School Gaiden' was that he had to split the illustration budget with the CV budget, and the end result was a game with a lot of missing art content, which disappointed players. The voices were nice, but players were expecting fully visualised scenes to complement the writing and gameplay. To make matters worse, the resulting sales after release weren't good enough to hire illustrators to fix this issue, so the game has garnered itself a negative reputation that still haunts I-Raf-You. If you're just paying a voice actress to do moans and so on for the in-game scenes like you've already done, that's fine. The reason being you can reuse those voice clips to save money. But if you had to choose between voiced lines and a new rendering rig for more visuals and animations, please pick the latter.

I actually really like the current set up of one sentence lines rather than reading all the text.

I agree too

Waaaaaw

I agree I think just moaning is fine.

Personally, I'd rather no VA since it doesn't quite fit a lot of these types of games. Moaning and the like is great, but actual dialogue tends to kill the buzz so to speak.
