I Have an Important Question(s)
Added 2024-03-10 03:43:31 +0000 UTCA big part of my Patreon is the models that I create for people to use whether it be to learn animation or to simply expand their character library for their current or future animation projects. And I want to continue creating the best models that I can. But creating models takes a monstrous amount of work. A lot of it tedious and laborious. I would like to get some feedback so that I can steer my efforts in the most optimal direction and provide what everyone wants.
So my question is this,
Should I continue creating 'generic' models that have rudimentary customization options? These models having the full intent to be edited and customized by the user so they can create their own characters.
Or should I instead start making popular, non-OC models. Such as Renamon or Salazzle, for example. This may mean that I only create a NSFW version
Some part of me already knows the answer to this. I made the Lizardmen to round off my character library with some anthro models and also with the idea that they would be an even greater success than that of the dino and drake. But sadly they didn't garner the attention I had hoped.
The next model I had in mind was a western dragon style model. I know dragons are a big part of the vore community and the scalie community as a whole. So my intuition tells me that unlike my prior releases, these models would have a much greater appeal. But I can never be too sure and that's why I would love to here from you all with how I should set my focus.

Love everyones comments and agree 100%, for me I would love to be able to watch your animation workflow on some of these models, I'm sure I would learn a lot seeing the creator bring motion to them!

2024-03-12 19:01:33 +0000 UTCye :) BTW Cloaca usually is for Female (as far as i know) but ye i can understand having a third alt version would make updating things heavier so is up to you and stuff :) either way looking forward to a potential Dragon :3

2024-03-11 02:23:23 +0000 UTCI appreciate the creativity of your OCS models but if you want to do non-ocs thats cool

2024-03-10 21:44:10 +0000 UTCConsidering the quality and style of your work, I'm happy to see just about anything you produce, be it original or not. I definitely do have a preference for the 'generic' models, though. They feel very unique and creative to me, and as much as I'd love to see something like a Salazzle in your style, I'll always be more interested in custom creatures. From here on out is an edit because my fat finger hit the enter button: I don't even do a whole lot of 3d, I mostly just fool around with it, but I'm still happy to be subscribed and supporting your models and animations (and also you made a thing with a cloaca and I may or may not have a huge bias for that :3). There's nothing else quite like them, and I feel like they give you an identity, more than "just another pokemon/digimon modeler". Ultimately, though, you do whatever feels right for you, and I will definitely be sticking around for it! At least as long as I have income hehe.

2024-03-10 21:27:56 +0000 UTCWhen I want to update or add features/textures to one of the models I also have to do that for the other two versions. This process takes quite a bit of work and I'm afraid that whatever I made wouldn't be much different from what already exists. With the way I have the texture customization set up, one could pretty easily create their own color patterns.

2024-03-10 21:05:04 +0000 UTCCurrently the dragons out there that I know of are people's OC's or game rips

2024-03-10 21:02:20 +0000 UTCI've realized that success of an anthro character relies heavily on what kind of anthro character. Had I done something furry then perhaps it would have garnered more attention. I'd like to do some type of furry anthro in the future

2024-03-10 20:59:41 +0000 UTCYea, the biggest issue I can think of when doing popular models is that there's already like 5 versions of the same 5 characters. I could try some lesser 'popular' characters like Lugia or another under-represented pokemon.

2024-03-10 20:57:21 +0000 UTCCloaca would be fun. The only downside is a cloaca version would likely take place of the female or male version. I'd really rather not have to keep up with a 4th or 5th version when I want to do a model update xD

2024-03-10 20:54:36 +0000 UTCin my views i would ask you to make western dragon style models :> would love to see it and to eventually make something with it :) personally i think they (if female) would have a Cloaca

2024-03-10 20:15:27 +0000 UTCDoing fan-favorites like the ones you just mentioned does sound like it runs the risk of making you sink into the background with all the others doing the same like others are mentioning here. I like the idea of doing a Western Dragon model (and I have a friend who would definitely love if you did an Eastern as well), and I feel like "generic" models would be the best because they give the people who download them the widest possible options for customization. What actually comes to mind is watching the DVD extras for The Incredibles and how they talked about using one generic human mesh to make all the characters in the movie (wild how long ago that was) and you'd effectively be doing the same by just using generic character archetypes that can become anything. I think of the two options you presented, that would be the best way to make this Patreon blow up.

2024-03-10 18:59:14 +0000 UTCSubbed not even 5 min ago for your models. I think generic models that can be customized are the way to go. Models of characters that already have models of them like won't draw much attention. Either way, it comes down to what you want to make and which one you enjoy more.

2024-03-10 17:05:52 +0000 UTCThe entire reason I am a subscriber is because of your models, and I would very much like to see your take on a customizable western dragon. I also agree that a dragon model would likely have greater appeal. If your goal is to create models that many people want to use, then I'm sorry to say Lizardmen might not have been the best subject matter for it. Even just a quick search on FA makes it clear that "Lizardmen" are far less popular than "Dinosaur," "Raptor" and "Drake." It also is clear that "Dragon" is several times more popular than all of the above categories combined. Like everyone else here I agree that you should put your efforts towards what you want to do. You do amazing and unique work and I hope to see much more of it.

2024-03-10 16:38:49 +0000 UTCPersonally I think you should make something small, adorable and destroyable for your other characters to snack on BUT that’s just my personal preference. Also, I’d 100% want to see a dragon from you, but there are plenty of other good dragon models out there so it might not be the most popular choice in terms of success.

2024-03-10 16:16:16 +0000 UTCAlso would it possible to have more textures for the other models in future as well?

2024-03-10 14:34:03 +0000 UTCIn the end the decision is ultimately yours. If you wish to go for popular characters, it's all good. If you wish to keep it simple "generic" models, that's also good. I would personally mix the two if I had to, since going one or the other way can do more artistic harm than one may think. Whatever you do, just make sure you find a balance where you get to at least execise what YOU want to do 50% of the time.

2024-03-10 14:33:54 +0000 UTCGiven the sheer saturation of popular models such as the aforementioned characters, I'm not too sure you will get much more out of it than before. If one were to go popular models, I dare say you should look at popular characters that do not have a saturated pool of assets already. As many also mentioned, you should preferably do what you want to do. Your best products tend to come from the stuff you like making. A common trap many artists fall into is the fad thing, where you risk a long-term support base that only really cares if you make whatever popular character of the week, while turning down any personal ideas you may think of.

2024-03-10 14:28:23 +0000 UTCDefinitely would love to see some Pokémon or Digimon pred characters in your roster. Would love to see a Goodra for example.

2024-03-10 12:43:06 +0000 UTCHonestly if I would see Salazze as well that would be wonderful 💙❤️ but don't worry I still love your models unconditionally and I use them
Faderoo
2024-03-10 08:23:31 +0000 UTCI think personally your own characters are much more interesting, but nothing beats your generic models, would love to see more like western dragons or dinosaur stuff maybe with a little more customisation like horns or stuff like that, but really do what ever you feel is best.

2024-03-10 07:57:58 +0000 UTCIf your gonna do non oc stuff, A model for saphira from eragon would be a godsend
Abyssdraggy
2024-03-10 05:58:41 +0000 UTCI too would like more new generic models. Creating things that are new. Renamon, Salazzle, Loveander, and all those other critters already have plenty of models out there. And going with the masses might just make your stuff even less noticeable. "It's just another renamon model." might be the result. Not to mention possible copyright problems. Creating your own lineup of creatures would make you stand out more and give the community more new and unique stuff. Not everything has to be a hit. Not everything will be a hit. Take what you learned and move onto the next project. I say, make your own stuff.

2024-03-10 05:58:03 +0000 UTCI honestly really love the more generic models, a western dragon especially sounds awesome, I think though some non OC models in your style would be suuuuper cool

2024-03-10 05:21:46 +0000 UTCoooo! I'd really love to see :D It's very rare that others will actually do custom stuff!
Jinnoaka Keineyo
2024-03-10 05:02:09 +0000 UTCI think you should do whatever you wish to do with the motivation you have at the moment. Though personally, we have to say thank you for doing the base models as you have, as our drake model uses your base on top of my modifications for my oc! So even if you dont feel your models are super popular, hopefully it's helpful knowing at least one drakie out there really really appreciates the work you do and have generously provided. Whatever you choose to do, you have a community that will support you through your adventures and exploration ^^
BlackjackGoFish
2024-03-10 04:27:43 +0000 UTCA little bit of both non-oc and customizable models can do you good. Make some bases where people can make their own complete models, like you said, AND make some models that are particularly your style so patrons know how you work. From a business stand point, you need something to bring them in; and that thing is your skill in modeling, rigging, and designing!

2024-03-10 04:13:25 +0000 UTCOut side if personally being very interested in a western dragon model by you, I also feel you should do whatever you feel is right in the moment. You don't necessarily need to stick to one path. Let's say you decide to go ahead with the dragon model and once that's done you want to work on something smaller scale, then you can always work on a more popular model next (or vice versa obviously.) Regardless of what kinds of models you make, there will be an audience for them, even if they end up being 2 different audiences. The only think I'll say is don't wait till you get burnt out on one thing to decide to try something else. If you're already feeling worn out on the more general models, than make a more popular once, even if it's just to see how it performs, how people respond, and most importantly, if you enjoy that kind of work.

2024-03-10 04:04:10 +0000 UTCI think you should do whatever makes you happy and the most fulfilled. But to answer your question: You should start making non-OC models, like Renamon and Salazzle because they are indeed more popular and that would surely generate more revenue for you. As for your new upcoming dragon model? I concur that that would be absolutely fantastic! And its success would be paramount ❤️
TehAngryXeno
2024-03-10 03:54:54 +0000 UTCAlthough it would be interesting to see you make models for renamon or salazzle, I personally find the base models like the lizard men to be more interesting and versatile. They way you have them set up makes it a lot easier to work with and customize outside the base colors.
