Martians of the Month: Robots and Rock Raiders

This month we've got 2 new spreads from the Martian of the Month Sketchbook!

The first features some very outdated technology that is well past its planned obsolescence date...

I had a lot of fun going back to some really old 1990 tech for designing the robots. Next month we've got the NEW and improved version (based off the FUTURISTIC designs from the year 2000...)

The second spread is another set of baddies I really enjoyed designing. They were meant to be space hippos with crocodile eyes, but we somehow ended up here. Their faces are really fun to work with and I plan to do a lot more with them. Right now they are a classic shoot-first, loot-later kind of space mercenaries.

GAME UPDATE: For the next post I plan to share some in-game shots! We've made a lot of progress so far in 2025 and we finally put together a test demo space that I can launch here and play around in. IT'S ALIVVVE!!! And it is really cool! The UI is still pretty rough around the edges, and I need to clean that up before I can start sharing gameplay clips with you. But it's working!! Apart from making progress on the UI and a testable space, we are currently focused on battle mechanics making sure the core loop of the gameplay is fun and interesting. It was slow going for much of 2024, but I feel like we've made a ton of progress in just the past month. Hopefully I'll be able to share more of it with you in the next post!

HAha YESSSS! I hated learning to type on these things back when I was in school (and dinosaurs still ruled the earth) but now I look back with fond nostalgia on their strange glowing orange screens.

Nice! Does the mini-butler have a calculator cousin from Texas called TI-82? Love these nostalgic old tech designs

Fun sketches. I like the rail gun looking alien weapon. Great to hear the game is alive and starting to have functionality. That is a fun exciting stage of developemnt.
