In keeping with our #Mermay tradition, this month's Monster is... "The Mermunk!"
PROMPT:
In the ancient world, there was once a civilization whose art and science rivaled that of Ancient Greece, whose math and architecture was more advanced than Egypt, and whose warriors were more fierce than even the Assyrians. They were gifted in strategy, metallurgy, and organization, and were said to have been wealthy beyond compare. They would have doubtless conquered the entirety of the classical world, if but for their one weakness: They were only 7 inches tall.
These diminutive creatures were said to have had the features of a chipmunk and a deep sea fish. In most classical depictions they are shown with tridents and nets, and sometimes shells, though these artistic accounts may be more "poetic" than historical. The Mermunk empire, at its height, spanned most of the Mediterranean Sea and broad stretches of the Atlantic Ocean. To this day it is not known how, but sometime around 500 B.C. all traces of their once enormous empire, simply vanished far beneath the waves. A mystery surrounds both their empire, and its dissappearance. Was it a terrible disease? An invasion? Aliens? No one knows for certain.
AWARDS this month will be given out for:
The on-stream awards are going to be just for fun this month, and won't have prizes attached to them. This is because our GOLDEN SLUGLORD AWARD for the very finest Mermunk will receive a legendary Staedtler 925 .5mm pencil and some other Gallery Gerard goodies!
*Remember you can upload yours to the community discord or you can hashtag this one as #LETSDRAWMONSTERS13 on Instagram. The challenge is 2.5 hours to do a drawing of the above prompt. I will be checking both at the end of the stream and sharing all the entries with everyone live!
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!
