"The Kakopire Bat" Final Colors : Monster of the Month for March 2021

Here is how "The Kakopire Bat" turned out! I went back to an older method for the painting for this one. It was the same method I used for the Rose Knight. I feel like it was simpler and more efficient overall than some of the methods I have been using recently.

In the Process Guide below you can get a sense of how it went. It requires me to cut a mask at the beginning (something those of you who've tuned in for the Twitch streams know that I absolutely loathe). But in the end I think that it really paid off here. This was 5.5 hours and turned out to be the 3rd or 4th place for fastest monster. It may have been the actual fastest considering we also did the minion "Inferior Kakopire" as well!

Also, it could well be that the new computer setup is just simply faster. All the little system and Photoshop hiccups I normally work with were totally absent while I painted this one. All in all, I think this turned out to be one of my favorite monsters, both for the design and for just how pleasant a painting experience it was.

Brush Set is still coming! It might be a tad late since we are still playing catch-up from earlier this month!

Hey thanks Lance!

Justin Gerard

This turned out awesome Justin. You continue to inspire; especially in sharing your process. Still working to hone in on mine. Haven't been able to catch the streams live in a while, but enjoying the vods when I can. Thanks for sharing your art & process.

I wanted to go back to an older process to compare the two methods. I still like the color layer method, (and I think the final result is probably the same), but I think this process does save some time when it gets to the opaque painting phase just because it is more straightforward.

Justin Gerard

i have a question, why did you get rid of the " color layer" step this time ?
