"The Fungus Infernus Knight" Monster of the Month for September Hi Res Wallpaper and GIF Animatic

Here is how our Monster for September turned out! I loved working on this one! And in truth, I wish I could just keep painting more of these knights! Sadly, other projects call and I must table them for now. I have12 others like this one (and the Rose Knight and Hedge Guard) already drawn out, and plan to share more of them when we start to reveal more of the next evolution in the Monster of the Month series.

The painting process involved beginning in transparent layers, (using multiply) that felt very much like traditional watercolor, and then slowly introducing more and more opaque work until we were able to add final shiny details using tiny brushes, color dodge and soft light. I didn't use much reference in the image, but I did in end up taking a photo of a dented doorknob in my house, which became my main inspiration for the surface lighting of all the armor. I love using really simple items to inform and simplify more complex elements of an image.

Anyway, I hope you liked this one! I had a blast making it. Ahhhh I wish I could start on another one of these right away!
