Hey folks!
It's been awhile since I've collected up some Spent Rounds. These are stray neuron discharges sprayed-and-prayed out at you - my unsuspecting patrons. So I hope you guys like target practice!
Work on the Cyberpunk + NieR comic is coming along well. But I'm ready to tie it off soon and move onto other projects. I like to switch things up every couple of months, just to keep my mind and motivation fresh. I am looking forward to getting back to King's Quest, as Rosella and Edgar's story is about to take an interesting turn. π
A few of you have asked about Batgirl. To be honest, I think that project has stalled. I ran into a technical and creative block with that tale and it weighs on me. I'm not classing it as abandoned, but I'm not sure when or if I'll come back to it. I'm very sorry about that. π
As a lifelong comic book fan, I've encountered this phenomenon with other writers as well - fantastic projects that abruptly end with no warning. Warren Ellis' works are a good example.
Since I started my own creative journey, I think I get why. It's hard to explain, but sometimes you just squeeze every drop of juice you can out of an idea and then it's more work than fun to continue on with it.
Now that I'm quite a few years into my Patreon, I've gotten better at only taking on stories I can see keeping me motivated till the very end. I've completed far more projects than I've abandoned. And recently, I've been directing my energies at shorter comics rather than massive year-long undertakings like Power Girl. Doing bad endings of games has been a really fun go (The Last of Us, Resident Evil, etc). π
I've already mentioned in the last post that I'm looking forward to doing Jade Empire and rebooting TTLG. Those should be very compelling AND sexy stories. Key to keeping myself on track is scope. Bloat and feature creep are the things that do me in, and Batgirl suffered from this. Given that 3D rendering is a monumental task, I've been trying to focus on tightening up scenes so that there isn't superfluous work that'd wear me down.
In any case, if you've read this far, then I hope my ramblings have given you guys some insight into my process. I get tired sometimes and these little dumps help me declutter my head. I'm still having a ton of fun every month keeping my art going - I wouldn't do it otherwise. I am taking bits of time off here and there to chillax, but having this creative outlet has given my retirement a great deal of enjoyment.
And having you guys as an audience has been a source of great encouragement. So thank you all for that!
See you guys real soon for some more sneak peeks for this month's comic! Hope you're all having a great weekend!
