Why REDUX? (Process)

Some of you may be wondering why I REDUX'ed my first TTLG book.  Aside from the obvious reason being any artist would love to revisit an earlier work and add all that he/she has learned, there were a few specific reasons why I did it.

Firstly, let me quote the old adage that "Perfection is the enemy of Good".  Meaning - no art will ever be "perfect", and an artist can waste what time he's got on this planet to keep revisiting the same material.  At a certain point you just have to move on if you want to create something new.

That being said - with Book 1, the prologue needed some obvious work.  The neon hallway shots were some of my very first renders, and I made some very amateur moves (poor lighting, framing, depth-of-field, etc).  Also a friend told me that it looked too "abstract".  He hit the nail on the head with that one.  He meant that the entire prologue looked so artificial that it took away from the more grounded renders later in the book.  That cinched it for me, and on I went.

As you can see from the shots above, the REDUX looks much more "real".  It also gave me an opportunity to try cooler poses and better fight choreography.  But some shots, like the throat-slash, looked cool the first time around.  😎

Lastly, my second book is about 70% complete at this stage, and it is coming along VERY well.  I've improved tremendously and it shows.  And I wanted my first book's "world" to stay consistent with my second.

Anyways, if you've read this far, thank you.  I love to talk shop, and if you're interested in hearing more on the process I apply, then please let me know.

Cheers, folks!

Also, but of a weird side note, but I do like the change in pistol as well. Don’t get me wrong, I love the more compact pistols as much as the next spy, but a suppressor fits her whole sneaky vibe super well, and a sleek, black-clad Glock kind of mirrors her as well

Definite improvements here. Especially like the improved choreography in image 2/3. The new one carries impact and is something I can more easily animate in my head. Looking forward to what you come up with next
