Quick status + Important announcements
Added 2020-10-26 18:53:46 +0000 UTCHi all! This month will only see a status update, because I want to do a couple of important announcements before getting right back to working on Checkup Blues.
Status of Checkup Blues
The animation is coming along splendidly! I'm not making any detailed post about it this month, but I thought I'd better fill you all in anyway. The animation just hit 4:15 in total length, and there's about half a minute left to animate. I'm basically starting on the two final sequences very soon and expect them to be done by mid november before going all in on rendering. It turned out longer than anticipated, but I have absolutely adored every minute spent on this project in these past months! Creating short stories in this format was just my type of thing, which brings me to my next point:
Future works
After switching to full focus on Checkup Blues, I've been so immensely invested in the project that I've completely stopped doing still images. I don't think I've churned out a single render unrelated to the project in the last months, and the thing is that I quite honestly haven't missed it a lot either. Actually, while working on this one, I already planned out my next project, which will be another animation as well. So I think it's safe to say that I'm officially changing focus to animations rather than still images, image sets and comics. I guess there may still be a still image here and there, but I'll primarily be putting myself out there as an animator from now on. This brings us to the third and most important announcement:
Changing from Patreon to Ko-fi
I've been reflecting on how my online presence has changed in the wake of my recent job related changes and the focusing on Checkup Blues. It's been much weaker than before, and I've been putting out way less stuff than I used to (and promised). All of this is quite natural of course, and I'm sure you all understand. Even so, I'm nowhere near maintaining my Patreon page as I initially envisioned, and at this point it just doesn't feel right to keep charging a monthly fee for a (not very well maintained)Mega archive and some sparse updates. It is very likely to remain that way too if I keep doing animated shorts. I'd rather change to a model based on single donations while making both the archive and the sporadic project updates free for all to access. That's why I've set up a Ko-fi page to replace my Patreon page in time. I haven't "officially" launched it yet as there aren't any links or anything out there at the moment, but it's there and searchable. I'll be making a separate post about this soon.
What this means for you right now
-is nothing at the moment. My Patreon chugs along as usual while I finish up Checkup Blues. Once only rendering remains, I'll start looking into setting up the Ko-fi page properly with it's own banner etc, and begin replacing Patreon links with links to Ko-fi to avoid people coming here at the last second. Patreon supporters will still be able to enjoy an early release of Checkup Blues before the rest of the world as a final reward, but the "credits" won't have any links to Patreon, only a link to Ko-fi and a heartfelt thank you to all my supporters. The public release of Checkup Blues will mark the transfer from the Patreon model to the Ko-fi model. Until then, Patreon exclusive content remains Patreon exclusive.
Again, I'll be making a more formal post about the change soon enough in addition to what I believe to be the last proper update on Checkup Blues before release. I just wanted to give you all a heads up.
Love you all!
