patreon

Patreon is making unavoidable changes for iOS users.

I'm not sure if they've kept you up to date on what's happening, but Patreon is forcing every creator to "Subscription" billing which makes it impossible for me (and many others) to run my patreon the way I currently do. This is apparently due to something going on with Apple. The important part though, is that this is also going to cause payments via the iOS App to be more expensive. 30% more expensive, because this is what apple wants to charge through their App.

The change is going to be forced on November of this years. However we have the option to delay this change until next year in November 2025, which will cause those who pay through the iOS App to not be able to re-subscribe. Since my page cannot operate on this new model, as Patreon doesn't provide anything to make that possible, I'm delaying this change to my page. So if you're if you're on iOS and wish to keep subscribing, you need to pay through Patreon's website on a web browser (If you're on mobile or PC, I highly recommend Firefox, Brave, or Vivaldi). You'll still get access to everything like discord and the animations. It's all the same. I will make a post informing everyone at least one month before I switch over to the new billing, maybe more than one month, at that point those who keep paying through the iOS App will have to pay 30%, but again, you can use Patreon's website instead.

When I do switch over to the new Subscription billing, this means users will be billed and rebilled on the day they sign up. meaning, if you sign up on the 13th, you'll be billed on the 13th of the next month if you continue to subscribe without canceling instead of being billed on the 1st of the next month. This style of billing is set up to give users 30 days of access to Patreon posts. However, with my set up, you get access to specific number of animations depending on your tier. So this forced change will make it impossible for me continue this way. If someone signs up on the 29th, for example, they'd have to wait until the 29th to get next month's videos instead of when they came out. There are also no settings for me to send out the animations to those who paid for those specific months.

So unless Patreon provides the tools I would need to keep operating the same way, I may have to rethink how I release my animations. I'm still not sure why Apple charging 30% more is causing the subscription style to change for everyone. I also have no idea how I would operate with the new subscription plan right now to keep it fair for everyone. If you have any questions you can send me a message on Patreon.
