Making of "There Be Monsters"

Back then I used to do these "photo posts" with things that had happened, but now the kids are enormous, the photos don't really work anymore! (Oldest was younger here than youngest is now!! π€―)
The conversation seemed ripe for a comic adaption, although I thought I better change the lead in. The game God of War: Ragnarok had just come out at the time, so the reference was fresh, but 5yrs on I didn't want to lose readers at the first panel -especially with a big wall of text! I brought Cooper in instead to act as "the monster" and get the conversation going, which also gave me the excuse to have a "B story" with Joel playing with him -first like a real life cat with Coop biting and bunny kicking him and then like a kid when Joel starts tickling!
I wanted Vincent to not look up to deliver his lines, but I felt bad having him playing the Switch AGAIN! I guess Mom Guilt even happens with my comic kids?! π My actual kid reads a lot, but the Switch is so much easier to draw than a book! There was one time where I was really busy so I kept the book blank and I've felt guilty about the lack of an easter egg ever since! I drew his "Big Book O'Facts" that's been in a few previous comics. I though that a platypus might be mentioned in a fact book added another layer to the joke maybe? Like he doesn't even believe it in a book!
