Think it needs to be done.

Heyo. This might piss a few of you off and I'm 100% ready for it.

Borne of Caution is going on a short break. This does not mean I will not be writing at all. Let me explain.

So for the last few chapters, I've had to do several drafts for all of them, and more than once I've foolishly deviated away from my storyboard in my frustration. I had to break away from my outline, and it's caused some issues with the story. When Lee and co clashed with Tyson in chapter 18, it was originally a narrow victory in Lee's favor as per my storyboard, but at the last second, I changed and added the inter-team confrontation thinking the story would benefit. Looking back, I wonder what I was thinking with all these deviations. It brings up another issue. The storyboard itself.

A storyboard that is almost 12 years old.

For some context, My friends and I drew up a huge outline for a pokemon fic back when we were still in school. We had some fantastic ideas, some awful ones, but it all came together in a beautiful outline that none of us wrote. Eventually, I lost contact with all of them, and the story was waiting and ready to be written, so I took it upon myself. There has been some issue with missing context on bits of the outline, so I had to fly by the seat of my pants there, and to make it easier, I broke it down into parts. Only now do I realize that following one bit of the outline and changing things without realizing how it affects the whole thing later going to cause issues, and that's netted me a lot of valid criticism. I've gone back and tried to re-write the storyboard, but damn it's taking time.

But now? I think I'm beginning to burn out.

I want to finish this story and I'll get it done even if I have both of my arms ripped off, but I don't want it to spiral down into something mediocre because I'm burning out. Considering conservative estimates are putting the full fic length to 800k-1mil words, I think I'm going to need a break here and there. It won't be super long, maybe 1 to 3 months at the longest.

Butttttt I'm not stopping my writing, not at all. I do have other works that I've posted here on patreon, and on SpaceBattles, I have started a writing quest to try and sharpen my ability to chain a full story together with the help of readers. I'll make a separate post soon.

So yeah, if you unsub or want to say I'm a dipshit or do both, I certainly will not stop you. I think you all have been very patient and generous with me

Thankee much.

Be confidant there’s nothing wrong with taking a step back and personally I was in favor of a little inter team drama I liked how Zinnias criticism was presented as both well meaning, accurate, and inherently rooted in personal issues of her own she was projecting onto Lee having said that there’s no need to fear that we’ll all disappear if you need to take a step back I promise I’ll at least still be here so take all the time you need

All good bro, appreciate the notice and the assurance that you plan to go back to it.

Hope that you are able to figure out the storyline. It's no issue taking a break to consider the story and how to piece it all together. Thank you for letting us know, instead of just going MIA. Hope that your new stories go well!

Good luck, and smart choice. It sucks that You are putting it on hiatus, but it is better than the story devolving into something less than you want.

A work of art takes time. I do hope you return!

Writing such a masterpiece requires a huge amount of planning and preparation behind the scenes. Such mental stress can indeed wear you down and I for one completely understand you needing a break. I personally have no interest in your other stories, but I will continue my support out of respect for the work you’ve already done with Borne of Caution and what you will do in the future. You do you. Don’t compromise the quality of your work.

Dw man, its your life after all, as the other comments said take the time you need. We will still be there for you.

All the best, take all the time you need 🤗

Do what you need to do. Take care of yourself first, which includes saving yourself the frustration of trying to push through a story that won't flow right for you. Take whatever time you need, and I - at least - will be here to read whatever you want to write.
