More adventures in AI: Camelot
Added 2022-12-07 08:30:52 +0000 UTCIt's been bugging me that I don't have a good image of Camelot itself, leaving me to represent it with a map. Since I spent part of the day playing with AI tools, I decided to see if I could fix that.

(Option #1)
The version above was done using Midjourney, with this prompt:
huge medieval city next to a rushing river, bridge crossing raging river, tall stone walls, blue sky above, small mountains in the far distance, romance style, warm golden light, volumetric lighting, unreal, Ultra detailed --ar 3:2 --v 4

(Option #2)
To break that down:
- "huge medieval city next to a rushing river, bridge crossing raging river, tall stone walls, blue sky above, small mountains in the far distance" is the central prompt, telling the AI what kind of image I'm looking for
- "romance style" hints at what kind of buildings I want. I tried gothic, norman and roman styles, but ended up preferring the romance style in the end
- "warm golden light, volumetric lighting" lets it know what kind of lights I want
- "Unreal, Ultra Detailed" says I want a '3d game' feel to the image
- "--ar 3:2" says I want it in 3:2 aspect ration (version 4 sadly only knows how to do 3:2, 1:1 and 2:3 aspect images)
- "--v 4" says I want to use version 4 of the Midjourney algorithm, which is the latest one.

(Option #3)
So. There you have it. Camelot. I'm curious, should I be using this kind of AI generated backgrounds more often? Which version do you guys prefer? Can anyone make a better one? Let me know in the comments!

(Option #4)
Comments
I would expect your Camelot would have been built for war with strong defenses being the largest priority until they could project enough power to help them feel they were largely unnecessary. Keep, then castle(, then a slight chance of a palace). I would expect to see a highly functional castle built around a very sturdy keep towering above a much more picturesque city. Something born in war then softened by prosperity.

2022-12-09 08:00:21 +0000 UTCI think I put something like "man flying above great white shark swimming in the ocean" in a surreal style. AI created a bloated shark thing flying above the ocean, but the abomination looked truly joyful and jolly.

2022-12-07 18:57:54 +0000 UTCI must preface this by saying I have been holding off on playing book 3, as I'd rather do a complete playthrough once it's done, so my memory is a bit foggy as I haven't played in a few months... but I'd say that the main features of Camelot are the castle, Merlin's tower and the King's Dragon. One could argue all three (castle, tower and tavern) are shown clearly in image 1. I never did imagine Merlin's tower to be square though, that really just puts the lighthouse of Alexandria in mind. Also, the castle isn't on a huge hill, is it? Or am I just misremembering? Image 2 is probably also my favorite, although it doesn't really have anything that could be the King's Dragon :( But image 3 has no tower and is a bit too river-focused, while the castle on the hill in image 4 is barely visible. Hell, it might just be a pile of rocks that I'm looking at thinking it's a castle?

2022-12-07 09:22:18 +0000 UTCBy themselves the images are very nice, but AI art is wonky. By the map, Camelot seems a medieval metropolis. Much more fun to see how it messes up your descriptions completely.
