VFX Shot breakdown: Act X scene

I started doing little VFX scenes as replacements for still images in Act VIII (the first sequence I used it in was the attack on the garage on the first day of Act VIII). I enjoyed it enough that I went back and redid a bunch of sequences using the technique, both in Book 1 and Book 2.

The rule of thumb on these guys is that they don't contain a lot of DAZ animation (or any, if possible), that they need to be looping and less than 8 seconds long. That keeps me sane; whereas a big DAZ animation might take me days (or weeks), these little looping sequences take less than an hour in most cases.

I haven't done a VFX breakdown for a while, so I thought I'd post one in case anyone was curious. Tools wise this one uses DAZ for rendering and AfterEffects for compositing and special effects.

I briefly mention a plugin used in the video, the amazing Saber by the equally amazing VideoCopilot crew. Originally designed for making star-wars-style lightsabers it's actually so versatile and useful that I end up using it for tons of my magical special effects.
