Fire walk with me
Added 2021-06-05 06:47:22 +0000 UTCWorking on the central cutscene for Act VIII. Since the act is called Red Devil there's no surprise that Katie's taking main stage here.
I had a very distinct image in my head of the scene I wanted... but actually making it took a couple of false starts (and 4 test runs of animation). The first walking animation was a wash. The second had a perspective that made it very hard to get the feeling I wanted.
Finally I ended up setting up two animations; the basic looping walk, and the variation with the lifted hand. The hand movement ended up too fast, so... we cheat a little; I actually really liked how the slowmo made the whole scene feel a little more impactful.
There's two sets of particle effects added on top (one for the fireball, one for the explosion on the bottom), then 3 sets of stock explosions layered on top of that, and a faded bokeh animation underlaying it all. Overkill is something only the other guy complains about.
The quote references Day 2, when MC meets Katie for the first time.
