I'm sad you didn't notice the details about the spells and how they're relating to their journey. Fern made mention of the type of 'strange' spells they're learning. The first one was a spell that polishes bronze statues. Then in the episode, Frieren takes a job to care for the rundown statue of Himmel. Fern also mentioned that they had learned a spell to turn grapes sour and later it's mentioned in a flashback that Eisen likes sour grapes. Frieren isn't just learning random spells. What I love about this series is that it shows that there was a purpose in even the little things that Frieren was seemingly doing.
