🍁Dear diary,
Today I thought I could show you the books I usually use to do the proper research about fashion and customs of the times my stories take place in.
I use internet sources a lot, of course, but I like to turn to actual books first to get a general idea of what the silhouettes and shapes of that historical moment are like, and how they differ from earlier and later eras. That way I can distinguish if an image taken from -let’s say Pinterest- is correctly assigned to the period I’m interested in. It’s too easy to find all kinds of false information on the internet regarding fashion and period costuming and, despite I know my stories are never a 100% period accurate, it bothers me a lot, haha... 😅

Hoy he pensado enseñaros los libros que suelo utilizar para documentarme sobre la moda y las costumbres de las épocas en las que transcurren mis historias.
Uso mucho las fuentes de internet, por supuesto, pero me gusta acudir a los libros primero para hacerme una idea general de cómo son las siluetas y las formas de ese momento histórico, y en qué se diferencian de las épocas anteriores y posteriores. De esta forma puedo distinguir si una imagen sacada de –pongamos Pinterest– está correctamente adjudicada a la etapa que me interesa. En internet es muy fácil encontrar toda clase de información falsa en relación a la moda y al vestuario de época y, aunque sé que mis historias nunca son 100% fieles al estilo del momento, me fastidia mucho, jaja... 😅
Bueno, creo que eso sería todo por hoy. Disfrutad del final de septiembre y no olvidéis que la semana que viene publicaré el nuevo capítulo de “Love, Lies and Petticoats”. ¡No os lo perdáis!

Thank you, that means a lot coming from an actual costumer! 🙊 Do you work in theatre? In movies maybe? I worked in the costume departament of a spanish tv series and a movie, but just as assistant, and it was years ago. I liked it very much because of the period costumes, but it was HARD work. 😅

It's a very good balance between accurate and actual worn clothing, not too stiff and proper ✨ I have two books in common with you ! The Racinet one, and the KCI one (in another edition) They are both very good reference ! Big museums have online collections too, which can be very useful (V&A, the Met...) I love what you do ! Can't wait to see the episode next week
