Candyman (1992) - Uncut Commentary

I love this movie. There's a certain amount of subtext in a lot of the dialogue that doesn't ever feel forced or clunky. an example is the moment when Jake is talking to Helen and he says "candyman 'aint real?" It's almost like she's discrediting his and his communities' experience. little moments like that, also the difference between how Bernadette interacts with people in Cabrini Green as a black woman vs. how Helen as a white woman conducts herself in that space is always interesting to watch. there's a lot to unpack. I loved watching you try to figure out if candyman was "real." i think the element of him being as real as peoples' belief in him is a big part of the story

Daniel Tavares Zlock

I may cry watching this just thinking about how he passed. His voice was so unique just as his presence was when he walked on the screen he just brought something to whatever he was in. Truly talented.
