It’s not he’s*

Jay Z held his own saying he got washed is a stretch, but he’s still clear as day to anyone whether they listen to rap or not that Eminem had the better verses

So a couple thoughts but let me start by getting this out the way. Ether was released 3 months after Renegade dropped so Nas saying Eminem murdered you on your own shit helped "validate and make loudddd" that narrative cos Nas was one of the biggest rappers in the game at the time. Snoop shortly after renegade dropped also said "I’d never ever put Eminem on my album, I saw what he did to jay-z in renegade.'" So the respect Em got from peers helped the narrative. Then you guys have to remember that this song was just after MMLP dropped. Em was by far the hottest rapper in the game so listening to this kind of verses from the hottest rapper AT THAT TIME has a different feel than listening to it with 2025 ears. Now, to the actual song, I believe technically is where Em got Jay. I appreciate y'all pointing out in J's first verse that he had dope internal schemes too and still rapped his way but when you compare that to how Em went crazy with the schemes throughout his verse, yeah the first round was a wash. It got significantly closer in the 2nd round and I still think Em got him on the second verse but its much closer than the first verse. I would have loved to break down some of Em's entendres and bars but this is getting too long already. Jay had dope relatable bars, Em had better ones especially with wordplay and entendres. Also, this was supposed to be Em and Royce song and they had prerecorded it but Royce gave the song to J. Mickey factz even used that against Royce on Wraith (y'all should react to this diss track btw) when he said " Hov' took you off Renegade like it was custody " but back to the point, it looks a little crazy on j's part that Em's verse was already recorded, he didn't change it, J had heard it and still couldn't overcome Em. It's like what else do you need to beat this man? Finally, I see why "washed" might be too strong a word in the context of the whole song especially to a Jay fan. What I would say though is that the winner of this song is pretty clear-cut. its Em and I don't think its debatable.
