Ezra

For how talented Billy woods is he gets nowhere near as much recognition that he deserves, dude is levels above so many yet barely anyone touches on his work.. GLWG, Hiding places, Maps, and his older albums are all masterpieces

Ezra

I’d love to see you dive deeper into more billy woods. GOLLIWOG is the strongest album this year, I think. Subject matter is much different (post-colonialism, poverty, relationships), but tackled with a pen no duller than KA’s.

DrBeats

Honestly it was a privilege. Love

Honor killed the samurai is crazy. Also his album with Animoss, Orpheus vs. the Sirens.

Yea definitely check out Professor Skye’s take on this album for some interesting food for thought. The album is called The Thief Next to Jesus but there were two thieves so it poses the question, which are you the listener and which is Ka as well? Clearly Ka is a very spiritual individual who’s strong faith has got him out of dire circumstances, but I think you were right how he’s also resenting the organization of religion into more evil forces that have corrupted and basically weaponized Christianity against black ppl. When you look at history, and the opening sample of Tested Testimony states this too, there was a law that allowed “Africans to be both enslaved and Christians.” Faith in salvation through Christianity was almost used as a tool to keep these communities subservient throughout history, praying to a “blonde” Jesus for salvation in the afterlife. But yknow if you only gain salvation by being good and righteous how is it possible to have Christian slave owners and Christian slaves simultaneously hoping to go the same place in the afterlife…..🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️. So I almost think the album title is asking which thief’s views on religion should you align with in the face of such historically evil forces of biblical oppression? Accept or reject Christianity or fall somewhere in between? Crazy layers to this album, I’m not at all an expert on The Bible but that’s just what I pick up on and think about when I listen. Definitely some tough pills to swallow but that’s what great art does, it holds a mirror.

Brandon Kao

That intro track is heavyyy. I think this project is one of his best in a stacked catalog and it’s insane it came out most recently. Ka was only getting better with age and some of the death foreshadowing in this album is kinda haunting to hear now….gone too soon fr. If you end up checking out more from him I think the other projects worth reacting to on camera are Honor Killed the Samurai and Grief Pedigree. These are his top 3 albums imo.

Brandon Kao

This why yall the GOATS!!! Been waiting forever for yall to do this one. Thank you for getting around to it and giving it the attention it deserves. RIP KA

Brandon Kao

Thank you so much for doing this one

Bottom of my heart bro, thank you for reacting to this 🙏🏽

Tony

Pleasant surprise to see you react to this. It was my AOTY last year, I’m glad KA lives on through the music. One of my favorite details is how the title of the first track is a list of the four subjects he addresses. Like you said, Bread — money, Wine — drinking/vices, Body — women monetizing their bodies w/o substance, Blood — black men killing each other over beefs and feuds Editing after watching more of the video: to live on borrowed time is to live longer than expected, so I think KA is saying, “by the time I go, I hope that I’ve lived longer than I was expected to live.” I think Professor Skye touches on this in his video — the idea that there were two thieves crucified alongside Jesus, and the album paints pictures of how black folks in society may be mirroring one or the other or both. One thief was the penitent thief, who was regretful and thought he deserved being there, while the other thief was impenitent, and thought that he had no choice but to take the actions that resulted in his punishment.

DrBeats

Bro we need Prince on these 😭

Pedro Zaragoza

Damn seeing that moment when Ka's death fully hit you was crazy. Watching it click in real-time that we lost the GOAT.

Ryan

I'm glad you tapped into this one. Getting a feel for your beliefs through other videos, I was curious how you would take this album. I recommend Professor Skye's video on this album. He shares certain beliefs with you and I thought he had a very insightful take on this project.

Ryan

This entire album has is so layered. Full dissertations could be written.

RJ

had to run the whole album back after watching this. ive heard it a hundred times i swear but every time i catch new lines. RIP to one of the best artists ever period
